DIRECTOR'S REPORT BY LEgLEE BREEN:
There were nine building usages in October, two of them were rentals, eleven events in
November and two generated revenue. The building is used a lot. We are not generating much
revenue at this time.
A velvet rope suggestion was made by Joe to keep people upstairs during functions and across
the open room where there are puzzles in progress.
A new program has started, The Sunshine Program with Sister Mary Charlotte. It is an outreach
program to bring a birthday card and a flower to homebound seniors on their birthday. It
started with money from the Friends and then the program must run on its own. Sister Mary
Charlotte is making money to support this program with cake and fudge sales. The program
officially starts on January 1, 1999. Sister Mary and Sheila will start it off as people
must go in twos and volunteers will do it in the future, It is limited to age 60 and up,
homebound and a Beverly resident.
COA'S telephone reassurance program has doubled.
Leslee gave us the weekly Beano report for October which shows how much money is in the Bingo
account which is $16,267.36 as of October 31, 1998.
The COA computer program was featured in the Globe and this has generated referrals to the
Council. Things are going well. The annual Briscoe Christmas party is on December 15. Many
events such as the Senior Soiree have sold out. This has been a wake up call to many who are
now coming to the Council and asking what is happening next.
Bob Marshall made a motion to accept the Director's report and Tom Sawyer seconded.
OLD BUSINESS:
A system of wires to melt the snow and ice on the roof and prevent clogged gutters will be
done next Saturday; paid for by the Friends. Bob mentioned that two gutters need to be
arranged properly.
We will revisit the CPR/First Aid and Disaster Preparedness courses proposed by Cynthia in
the Spring when there may be mo.re interest.
NEW BUSINESS:
A Veteran's Day closing letter from Morgan Knowlton was read. It was reques:ed by the Board
to Leslee to make him aware that all Veteran's Posts are open on Veteran's Day, for example
331 Post of the American Legion is open. For next year someone from COA will call the posts
and make a list of November 11 activities. There are also Service Officers (Veteran's
Agents) who are there to service the Veterans.
Leslee will write a Thank you letter from the Board to the Club, Friends and employees for
all their hard work.
