Meeting July 2, 1996
Present: Chr. J. Dettorre, Vice-Chrm. J. Dettorre, Sec. M.
Coughlin, S. Fiorini, J. Qualantonao Also present, J.
Menesale, reporter, Salem Evening News.
Meeting came to order 1:23 p.m.
M. Coughlin read the secretary's report which R. Marshall
moved to accept which J. Qualantona seconded. So voted.
A brief discussion ensued regarding stopping the $70.00
monthly fee for the elevator. It was decided that the fee
was a waste of money when nothing was wrong. with it and that
in the case something does fail we can call repair.
R. Marshall moved to do away with the monthly fee with J.
Qualantona seconding and S. Fiorini abstaining. So voted.
It was announced-that Tom Saunders and Tony Dettorre were
appointed new members to the council and were waiting to be
confirmed and sworn in.
M. Coughlin md~ed that Janice Levesque be hired as.the new
director for the Beverly Council on Aging seconded by J.
Qualantona. It was unanimously voted.
M. Coughlin moved to send a letter of appreciation to Mrs.
Mary Dionne for her untiring efforts in a most difficult
time of transition at the Center. This was seconded by R.
Marshall. So voted.
It was hoped that the new director would start July 8th.
It was decided to have the next meeting on July 10 in order
to acquaint the new director with some details she would
need to know.
At the last meeting, M. Coughlin suggested saving money by
advertising for the needed positions in one ad as is done by
others. R. Marshall like the idea and moved to advertise
for a receptionist/dispatcher, an outreach worker, and a
Program and Activity Director with the cut off date of
August 1st. This was seconded by J. Qualantona.
S. Fiorini opposed and J. Qualantona, M. Coughlin and R.
Marshall agreed. Motion passed.
Election of officers was held with the following slate:
Chairman-R. Marshall
Vice-Chrm. J. Dettorre
Secretary- M. Coughlin
R. Marshall moved to close nominations seconded by J.
Qualantona. So voted.
Sec. cast one vote for the slate of officers. S. Fiorini
seconded. So voted.
A discussion was held regarding Senior Citizen for1996.
After many qualified candidates were mentioned, M. Coughlin
moved to nominate Pietro and Rose Nuccio for the honor which
was seconded by J. Qualantona. So voted. This was to be
kept confidential as a surprise.
Under new business: Mr. Chaffey has received two bids for a
rug machine. It is hoped the Friends will sponsor this.
M. Coughlin moved to adjourn seconded by J. Qualantona. So
vo~-ed. -
The next meeting will be July 10, 1996 at 2 p.m. at the
Senior Center, 90 Colon St., Beverly, Ma.
There will also be a meeting August 12, 1996 at 1:00 p.m.
at the Center.
