R. Marshall, Vice-Chr. J. Dettorre, Sec. M.Coughlin, S. Fiorini, J. Qualantona, T. Saunders, Dir. Jo Levesque. Absent: A. Dettorre. In attendance, M. Handly, City Solicitor and Mr. T. Scully. Meeting came to order at 3:26 p.m. Mr. Handly came to inform the council that he had contacted the Attorney General regarding his direction he had given the council members on October 7, 1996 that they had the authority to hire and fire workers at the council. He was advised by the AG office that he was wrong and apologized for any confusion he may have caused. He stated that the charter rules over General Law and "I stand corrected." The meeting then when into Executive Session on a roll call vote. Marshall, yes. J. Dettorre, yes, Coughlin, yes, Fiorini,yes Qualantona, and Saunders, yes. The session was held to discuss pending litigation by the Massachusetts Commission on Discrimination delivered October 23, 1996 for Kathleen Fitzgibbons against the City of Beverly and others. It was moved and seconded by T. Saunders to adjourn executive session. Voting yes, Marshall, J. Dettorre, Coughlin, Fiorini, Qualantona, and Saunders. T. Saunders moved to adjourn which was seconded.
