1-17-2019 meeting minutes. Board: Board of Health Subcommittee: City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Date: January 17, 2019 Place: Beverly Council on Aging, Arts & Crafts Room Board members present: Susan Higgins, William J Alpine Jr. Board Members Absent: Frank S. Carbone Jr. MD Others present: William Burke, Director of Public Health, Teresa Kirsch, Public Health Nurse, Joyce Redford, Program Director, NS /CA Tobacco Alcohol Control Program Recorder: Kathleen McCullough Vice Chair William J. Alpine Jr. called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. in the absence of of Chairman Carbone who was excused from today's meeting. The minutes of the December 13, 2018 meeting were approved and accepted as mailed. The Board discussed amending the tobacco regulations changing the language for the adult -only tobacco stores. There shall be signs posting the legal sales age of 21 and no admittance to anyone under 21. Clerks must ID persons entering business to verify the age. Allowing someone under 21 into the store and making a sale would be two violations. The Board agreed that they would be comfortable with stacking the violations in this situation. Joyce Redford will make the edits in the regulations. The Board will look them over and send them to the solicitor before voting. Sue Higgins motioned to approve and Mr. Alpine seconded. Mr. Burke asked the Board if they would like to further discuss the presentation from Stephen Jones, MD concerning the risks of natural gas. All agreed they would not take any action at this time. Mr. Burke had a few updates for the Board. Mr. Reale has started the choke saver training classes for restaurant personnel. Six different dates have been set aside to conduct the training which is sponsored by Northeast Regional Ambulance. The new Bring Your Own Bag ordinance went into effect on January 1S The Health Department conducted spot checks of 35 to 40 establishments of which there were eleven violations. Letters were sent out to the establishments and there is a 30 day grace period which allows them to correct the violations. Mr. Burke attended several Institutional Biosafety Committee meetings for some of the biosafety companies. The next scheduled meeting is February 14, 2019.
