Minutes January 1 5 19Beverly Council on Aging Board of Directors Meeting Minutes Date: Place: Members Present Staff Present: Meeting Called to Order: JANUARY 8, 2019 Beverly Council on Aging Senior Community Center Claire -Marie Hart, Bob Hobbs, Cynthia Montalbano, Jessica Wistran, Esquire, Susan Feeney MaryAnn Holak 2:40 pm by Claire -Marie Hart, Co- Chairperson Secretary's Report: Minutes were accepted as written from the December 2018 meeting. Director's Report Building Concerns and Usage We are still waiting to hear on the parking light pole lamp that needs replacement. An accident occurred directly related to this fallen pole that caused a total of $4, 00.00 dollars in damages to a car has been reported. Congressman Moulton's COA Director's Round Table — January 8 -in the main hall AARP /RSVP volunteer tax preparation program changes for 2019. Due to a lack of acceptable space for the tax preparers there will be one less volunteer tax preparers this year. Fire Alarm panel has a problem and needs repair the estimated repair cost is one thousand dollars Mary Ann will keep the Board posted on the exact cost. Administration and Finance Budget reviewed. 51.9% of the City Budget is done. The Friends Account has a total of $8,000.00 available to the Council on Aging. Discussion will take place so as to identify the proper usage for the funds. Newsletter redesign name is the same - Garden City Courier — but fonts and colors have changed. The color on the front page and throughout the newsletter looks great. The January Newsletter was well received. Senior Soiree sold 122 tickets to date. Event is on January 10th Programs and Events Clients of concern will now be handled by Blair Smith, LICSW We have sent out some 84 cards to elders that have lost a spouse. 8 seniors had home visits. 40 seniors received holiday gift baskets. Winter Preparedness Program went well 20 to 25 people were in attendance and the program was well received. Red Sox Talk with Dick Flavin Tuesday Feb. 12 from 10 to 11:30 am Sign up in advance for this event $2.00 charge for popcorn and hot dogs for lunch, Held in Suites A & B Game Night will resume on Thursday January 17th 4:30 to 6:30 pm Meetings /Activities Clients Scholarship Committee did not meet Awards Committee did not meet Personnel Updates 60 resumes have come into the Council so far for the Assistant Director position. Aren't we all lucky to have known someone that makes it so hard to say goodbye " - Winnie the Pooh Above quote was used by MaryAnn at the going away party for Jessica Waggett on January 3 Bill Brewer will be taking retirement. He plans to work through February 2019 Greg Wilson has accepted a full -time position, his last day of employment is January 18, 2019. Gordon College social work intern will be starting in January. Old Business MaryAnn suggested that small board committee be formed to look at the Board goal that is part of the strategic plan. The idea was tabled until next meeting.
