11-15-2018 meeting minutess: City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Board of Health Subcommittee: Date: November 15, 2018 Place: Beverly Council on Aging, Arts & Crafts Room Board members present: Frank S. Carbone Jr. MD, Susan Higgins, William J Alpine Jr. Board Members Absent: Others present: William Burke, Director of Public Health, Teresa Kirsch, Public Health Nurse, Joyce Redford, Program Director, NS /CA Tobacco Alcohol Control Program Recorder: Kathleen McCullough Chairman Carbone called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. The minutes of the October 11, 2018 meeting were approved and accepted as mailed. Joyce Redford attended the meeting in regards to making some amendments to the tobacco regulations for adult only retail tobacco stores. The City Solicitor had recommended clearing up some of the language to avoid any confusion regarding what is a violation. There should be a separate violation for allowing anyone under 21 to enter the store. Also, there should be signage warning that it is an adult only store. Mr. Burke will go over the latest language and present it to the Board at the next regular meeting. To comply with the new state law effective January 1, 2019 we may need to amend "Parent Language" about purchases for minors. Mr. Burke had a few updates for the Board. It was mentioned at the October l 1 meeting that Dr. Stephen Jones, MD had requested to come before the Board to make a presentation of "Natural Gas and Natural Gas Infrastructure ". Mr. Burke invited him to the November meeting and he was put on the agenda. Dr. Jones asked via email about phone participation. Mr. Burke told him we were not equipped but offered a future date and to forward any information. The Board was open to a "call in" presentation. Mr. Burke will inform Dr. Jones. A flu clinic was held at City Hall on November 5. A total of 17 doses was administered. Teresa Kirsch, Public Health Nurse, also worked the Danvers YMCA Flu Clinic on November 15 On October 27 the Police Department conducted a Medication Take- Back at the North Beverly Plaza. Officer Panjwani reported they had 81 participants and collected 423 pounds of unused medication. The 2019 Houshold Hazardous Waste Day will be held on April 20 at the Beverly High School. The Department is working on getting out all of the permit renewals for the upcoming year. The semi - annual rooming house inspections are being conducted.
