Meeting Minutes
Date: October 2, 2018
Place: BCOA, 90 Colon Street

Staff Present: MaryAnn Holak, Jessica Waggett, Guest: City Council President, Paul Guanci
Meeting called to order: 2:40 pm
Secretary's Report: Minutes were accepted as written from the September meeting.
Special Guest: Paul Guanci, President of the City Council attended our meeting as a guest.
Mary Ann gave an in depth informational on the Strategic Plan 2019 -2022 for the future of the
BCOA. Paul addressed the Board on the City Council. Discussion on future guests attending
meetings from the Council and the potential for any Board candidates. President Paul has
expressed an interest in attending another meeting since he had to exit the meeting a bit early.
Director's Report
Building Concerns and Usage
The heat pipe replacement has been completed.
Painting on the exterior door is underway.
City Democratic committee donated $250.00 for rental of the hall on Sept. 13 for a School Gun
Safety discussion.
Information session was held on Sept. 10' for several new parking enforcement positions with
the city. Hiring 4 to 5 new officers.
The Planning Dept and Mayor Cahill held a meeting on September 18 on Marijuana retailers in
Beverly.
A fuse in the fire panel has been replaced.
Flu Clinic will be held on October 0 2:30 -5:30 pm
First Responder Flu Clinic was held on Sept. 23r
Fire extinguishers were filled today.
Recreation Dept. evening classes start Monday, October 15 and Wednesday October 17 and
will run till just before Christmas.
Administration and Finance
Budget reviewed, we are on track at 24%
Senior Care Annual Gala took place September 27 A great time was had by all in attendance.
We were seated at a table with former Mayor Scanlon, and his wife along with State Rep. Jerry
Parisella and former city councilor, Bill Coughlin.
A donation towards our popular "Game Night," was given through the Beverly Bank so that we
may serve pizza and soft drinks during the games.
Newsletter re- design shared in an email that went out to the board.

Open House.

Breakfast Club looking for more senior participants. Contact the center to join the group.
Outreach through Brookwood School in the form of an Intergenerational Program, which
includes 6 th and 8 th graders helping seniors. Approx. forty Brookwood students will take part in
this program.

Mobile market funding and start up in November TBA
Meetings /Activities /Clients
Laurie Grant, LICSW met with the Outreach Team to regarding Clients of Concern.
Mary Ann will attend the MCOA Conference Oct. 24 and Oct. 25' at Seacrest in Falmouth,
Ma.
The Remodeling Company located at the Cummings Center will present a lecture on tips for
home owners. More information to follow.
New parking kiosks in downtown. More information to follow.
Personnel Updates
Elaine H. will retire her position with Meals on Wheels. She will be missed in that capacity.
She will remain in her part-time position as Outreach Coordinator.
Committee Reports:
Awards Committee had no new business.
Scholarship Committee had no requests this month.
New Business: The Board agreed to meet on Wednesday, November 7 at 2:30p.m. as Tuesday,
November 6 is Election Day and city boards are not able to meet on Election Day.
Unfinished Business: The Board reviewed the Board goals for the strategic plan. They have
already begun implementing some of the goals, for example inviting President Guanci to the
meeting. They also agreed that they will attend events at the Senior Center as requested by the
staff.
