July 2018 Veterans Council Meeting MinutesVETERANS ADVISORY COMMITTEE Meeting July 26, 2018 Meeting Held at City Hall, 191 Cabot Street, 3 d Floor, Beverly, MA Jerry Guilebbe called the meeting to order at 5pm. Veterans council members present: Jerry Guilebbe, President Charles "Buddy" Rehal, Vice President Susan Moran David Perinchief Donald O'Connor Ron Genest Paul Weinberg Advisory members and guests: Paul Lance, VFW President PaulJudge Richard Cavanaugh Susan Moran read the minutes from the June meeting. Buddy Rehal made a motion to accept the minutes. The motion was seconded and carried. COMMITTEE REPORTS Financial Report— David Perinchief Since 2016, $17, 054.69 deposited. $5,919.34 has been spent. The confirmed balance in the account is $11,135.81. Donald O'Connor made a motion to accept the financial report. Motion was seconded and carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Beverly Vietnam Veterans Memorial Plaza - A revised request for proposal was issued on July 24, 2018. The bids are due July 27, 2018. Bids can be awarded as early as July 30, 2018 depending on how many bids are received. The final feedback for the copy of the plaques is due August 1, 2018. The DMZ line has been added to the map of Vietnam. The sculpture photos have been sent to Jane Decker. The markers will be 22" W x 22" H, 12" deep at the bottom, decreasing to approximately 3" deep at the top. The individual killed in action name plaques will measure 4 inches by 14 inches. All story plaques will measure 14 x 19. They will be positioned vertically on pedestals. Veteran Family Cookout — The cookout will be August 3, 2018 at Vietnam Veterans Memorial Plaza from 4 -7pm. Beverly Vietnam Veterans and the VFW will supply all the food. A cook, grills, and a dumpster have been secured. There will be music. 5 gallons of ice cream was donated. Beverly Holiday Parade — Chuck Clark and Corey Paulette can get a truck. The theme is the 350` anniversary of the City of Beverly. There was a discussion regarding decorating a float. General Funding for the council - A new line item will be added for general spending. VETERANS ADVISORY COMMITTEE Meeting July 26, 2018 Meeting Held at City Hall, 191 Cabot Street, 3 d Floor, Beverly, MA Cable Access Show — Jerry met with Walt Kosmowski from BevCam. BevCam will provide all the tech support for the show. The title of the show will be Veteran Voices. Jerry has contacted Atty. Julie Lowe to discuss veteran affairs, Mark Pecukonis and Leslie Gould from the Beverly Chamber of Commerce, ROTC, and a local Vietnam veteran. Additional guests would include Boys and Girl Scouts, Ken McKay, Christine Babcock from North Shore Community College, and Lynn Polini from North Shore Veteran Counseling Services will provide a couple counselors to discuss PTSD. The first show will require a biography from all of the veteran groups, Elks, and the scouts. Veterans Day —The rededication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be held on Veterans Day. There was a discussion regarding obtaining a speaker. GOOD OF THE ORDER Vittori -Rocci Post will be raffling off 32" flat screen TV with 10 PlayStation games. The company organ will also be put up for raffle. Richard is bringing the Steel Tigers, all eras, out to the North Shore for a reunion in June 2020. He needs help with contacts. David Perinchief will see if Collings Foundation can send some of their equipment. He will also talk to Martha in the Mayor's office to see how the City can be involved. There was a discussion regarding politicians sending staff members to events. The staffers will be given an introduction but will not give speeches. The next meeting will be August 23, 2018. ADJOURNMENT Paul Weinberg made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Motion was seconded and carried.
