Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Margaret Altman, Mary Behrle, Marshall Handly, Ivy Mahan, Kevin O'Reilly, Joanne Panunzio, Myron Schirer -Suter Board members absent: Anthony Kline Others present: Anna Langstaff, Allison Babin, Bruce Doig Recorder: Allison Babin Kevin O'Reilly presided. Marshall Handy made the motion, seconded by Margaret Altman, to accept the minutes of the regular meeting of Thursday, April 26, 2018. Motion passed. Public Presentation None Committee Reports Personnel: Committee will meet to review the results of the Director's evaluation survey. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Long Range Planning: No report. Report of the Library Director 1) Budget FY2018: No major changes since last meeting. 2) Budget FY2019: Anna Langstaff will be presenting the proposed budget at the City Council meeting on June 6. City Council will vote on June 25. 3) Personnel: Susan Innocenti has retired. Interviews for the Senior Library Assistant (Technical Services) position have been completed, and an offer has been made to a candidate. Robin Flynn's last day is June 8. Interviews are underway for the Head of Communications position. 4) Customer Service Workshop held on May 4 went very well and staff were very engaged. Anna Langstaff and Allison Babin will be writing a Customer Service statement, as well as conducting some additional exercises with staff to continue training in this area. 5) The Volunteer Appreciation Tea was held on May 1. 6) Endicott intern will be starting the first week of June. 7) Anna Langstaff, Meghan Karasin, and Margie McClory will be attending the First Thursday meeting in Gloucester Crossing to promote summer reading opportunities. 8) Union negotiations have not yet started. 9) Department heads have been assigned an ALA webinar "Supervise with Success" to build their leadership and supervisory skills. The webinar will be discussed at the next department head meeting. 10) Massachusetts Library Association conference: Anna Langstaff, Allison Babin, and one part -time librarian attended on Monday, May 21. Three other staff members are also attending on Tuesday, May 22. 11) Anna Langstaff will be on vacation the week of May 29 through June 1. 12) Building Issues: Mike Collins received an estimate of $3600 for the granite of one capstone. Repair work would be done by DPS. 13) Security: The clinician/social worker cannot be stationed at the library, as previously thought, as Lahey requires her to be located in the police station. 14) New services: New York Times online for Beverly residents; Adult Summer Reading Program; Summer program guide which will advertise all summer library programs (for kids, teens, and adults at both Main and Farms locations) for 2018. 15) Trustee appointment: Martha Lewis told Anna Langstaff that Mayor Cahill would meet with Colleen Michaels prior to the end of this fiscal year. 16) Anna Langstaff was the featured guest on an episode of BevCam's "Senior Moments" and talked about the library. 17) Allison Babin shared program highlights: the Summer Reading Kick Off Celebration on Wednesday, June 20 and the Let's Talk About Books! Program on Monday, June 25. The library will be holding a total of 118 programs for kids, teens, and adults this summer. Communications None. Unfinished Business 1. Assistant Director's Contract: Library Trustees reviewed the proposed employment contract for Allison Babin. After some discussion, Myron Schirer -Suter made the motion, seconded by Marshall Handly, to: Approve the employment contract for Allison Babin. Motion passed. New Business None. The next meeting of the board will be Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 6:OOPM at the Beverly Farms Branch. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:40PM.
