1999-12-07City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Council on Aging Subcommittee: Date: December 7, 1999 Place: Senior Community Center Board members present: Joseph A, Dettorre, Susan M. Albiero, Ellen M. Skryness, Cynthia Montalbano, Joan Fairbanks, Nancy Winter. Board members absent: Bob Marshall, Kris Splaine, Kathryn Burns Others present: Leslee Breen, Director of the Council on Aging Recorder: Ellen Skryness The meeting was called to order by Nancy Winter at 2:30 pm. Ellen made a motion to approve the October meeting minutes and Joe seconded. The motion passed. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: There were no rentals of the building this month. Building usage reviewed. Bingo and financial report reviewed. COA served over 20% of the senior population in Beverly with 13,000 units of service at our half year mark which was run on the new statistical package. (developed by the state for all state COAs) Approximately 7500 seniors are coming here. The Senior Soiree sold out in less than 48 hours. Leslee has started a waiting list. (200 max) The Briscoe party is also sold out. (150 max) On December 21, Gordon is returning. COMMITTEE REPORTS: On November 23, at the Friend's Meeting, Joe and Leslee reported that the bus was the main subject and also Heather Street. COA can't clear for parking because the neighbors didn't want it. The Friends are looking at space across the street from Gove Lumber Company. Susan collected names on file cards for invitations. Next month bring the names of three former co workers. BUILDING MAINTENANCE: CMC Elevator Corp. has been called since early November and have not returned Leslee's calls. Leslee is researching other companies. The city may decide on blanket contracts. The trees have been removed from the back. NEW VEHICLE - Eight places have been researched. The board reviewed the information that was on a spread sheet supplied by Leslee. All three groups will meet to discuss if we can afford the bus. Otherwise we go through the City of Beverly bid process. After the three groups meet Joe suggested that a salesman come in so that we can ask him or her questions at a formal presentation Joe also suggested that our present bus(1989) will be a good back up bus if we can find a place to store it. NEW BUSINESS: BOARD GET TOGETHER - Joe made a motion that the board have an annual dinner meeting. Our board line item is $30. at this point. On January 4 the business will be at 5 pm and the dinner at 6pm at the Depot or Beverly Golf and Tennis Club. Leslee will call and Susan will follow up on the menus. Leslee read a thank you letter to the Senior Club from the board and Nancy signed it. Peter and Rose Nuccio's plaque is up over the Arts and Craft room. The dedication date is January 6 after the Friends meet and it will be at 2:45 pm. If the weather is bad we can have the dedication on Thursday, January 20 as a good back up date. Leslee passed out a memo for all meetings for the entire year for the COA Board, The Friends, The Senior Club and the Communication Meetings. OLD BUSINESS: Susan finished one profile, Nancy Winter, from the Board of Directors. Joe will check out the Vittore Rocci for next years Senior Soiree due to the overwhelming numbers who want to attend. it will be on December, 29, 2000. The meeting closed at 3:35pm. The next meeting is Tuesday, January 4 at the restaurant. (information coming)
