Minutes May 15 2018Beverly Council on Aging Board of Directors Meeting Minutes Date: May 15, 2018 Place: Beverly Council on Aging Senior Community Center Members Present: Bob Hobbs, Cynthia Montalbano, Claire -Marie Hart, Annie Horrigan, Jessica Wistran, Esquire, Susan Feeney Staff Present: Mary Ann Holak, Jessica Waggett, Bruce Doig Meeting Called to Order: 12:00p.m. Claire -Marie Co- Chairperson Secretary's Report Director's Report Minutes were accepted as written. We are still waiting for the arrival of the heat units. We are still waiting to hear from Public Services regarding the bench installation. A Discussion on the news article that appeared in the Globe on May 13 — Center is hosting a Healthy Brain Expo and Dr. Andrew Budson will be keynote speaker on May 17 at 5 p.m. Budson is the Author of the book "Seven Steps to Managing your Memory." Distribution and discussion of the Needs Assessment study from UMASS Boston. Hand out on newspaper article with information on the Friendly Garden Plant sale taking place on May 19. Building Concerns and Usage Garden City Plant sale to take place May 19 Mayor recycle meeting held on April 10 Police staff meeting held on April 12 A Public Hearing June 7 6:30 p.m. AARP /RSVP TX Aide Program Completed April 12. Programs and Events The NCOA Aging Mastery Program is underway. Funding from Beverly Hospital. A request was made that we improve our recycling efforts staff and Seniorcare are sourcing recyclable cups and bowls not made of styrofoam — these items are more expensive than the alternatives. Discussion on Property Tax write off program and Volunteer Recruitment Informational Session held April 11 26 people were in attendance. Amy Gothing, Community Engagement Fellow held a workshop on intergenerational programs and ideas. Community professionals and seniors participated. April 24 a Volunteer Recognition Luncheon was successful. May 8 1h UMASS Boston presented the Community needs assessment to an audience of about 50 people. The Last Game night was held on May 3rd The last Breakfast Club will take place on May 17 Healthy Mind Body and wellbeing Expo May 17 at 5 p.m. May 29 the Singing Trooper will entertain at a Memorial Day luncheon show. Community Garden volunteer meeting — planting is underway. Another successful Mobile Market was held. Events coming in June Shredding Day June 2nd Rabies Clinic June 14th World Elder Abuse Awareness Day June 15th at City Hall Meetings /Activities /Clients At Risk Task Force meeting was held. A discussion on Clients of Concern Information on the Spring Leaf Raking Program. Personnel Updates Bus driver is out on leave due to a car accident. Transportation staff annual training is scheduled for April, May and June. Interns have completed their hours. We have applied for a summer assistant through First Jobs. Jessica and Mary Ann will attend a training provided by city on "Preventing Workplace Discrimination and Harassment" on May 31. Committee Report Scholarship Had meeting today — 8 scholarships awarded Awards Senior of the Year nomination forms will be in the May Newsletter Old Business New Business FY 19 Budget Proposal — MaryAnn presented the FY 19 Budget proposal to the Board. Center received funding to hire consultant Bernadette Orr to help develop a Strategic Plan from the needs assessment data. Bruce offered to hold the meeting at the carriage house. MaryAnn asked for availability of board members and she will let us know what works best for everyone. Discussion on MASS DOT Grant for a new vehicle — we will be submitting a grant proposal due in June. Announcements Adjournment Date of Next Meeting June 5"' 2:30 pm Respectfully Submitted Cynthia A.
