Veterans Council Members Present: Charles "Buddy" Rehal Susan Moran, Secretary David Perinchief Donald O'Connor Robert (Bob) Laws Ron Genest Chuck Clark Advisory members and guests: Paul Lance, VFW President Cory Paulette Ken McKay Dave Ball Bridget Ball Jim Letter, City Councilor Timothy Smith VETERANS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING March 22, 2018 MEETING HELD AT CITY HALL, 191 CABOT STREET, 3 "° FLOOR, BEVERLY, MA The minutes were emailed to all council members for review. Buddy made a motion to accept the minutes from the previous meeting. Motion was seconded and passed. Financial Report — David Perinchief • $11,160.81 in Veterans budget Committee Reports — Beverly Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee • Vietnam Veteran Memorial — Chuck Clark states that the project is on schedule for a dedication on Veterans Day. Monday David is going to Sig Sauer Academy regarding the fundraiser in September /October. The Beverly Vietnam Veterans has a GoFundMe page set up for donations. • Vietnam Veterans Day is March 29th. there will be a ceremony on March 29 at 5pm at the monument at Beverly Hospital. Four Chaplains Sunday — Bob Laws • Bob Laws would like the $500.00 set aside for Four Chaplains Sunday to be available for Four Chaplains Sunday and other public events. It was decided that the money is designated for Beverly veterans only and could not be used for other events. David suggested contacting local churches to find out if there are veterans in the congregation to join in Four Chaplains Sunday. Memorial Day — Everything remains the same. Hardy Prince is the oldest veteran. Moore GMC has offered to supply a couple of vehicles to transport veterans. The Beverly Elks budget was approved to pay the Legion for the trolley. Ron Genest met with Patrick Coughlin about a horse for the parade. The horse is jet black with boots backwards in the stirrups. He would like to have two people on either side of the horse to keeps children away and two people in front to carry a POW /MIA banner. Ron is working with Bob Driscoll to coordinate. Old Business - • Cemetery flagging VETERANS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING March 22, 2018 MEETING HELD AT CITY HALL, 191 CABOT STREET, 3 "° FLOOR, BEVERLY, MA Flags for Memorial Day are all set. • Flag Retirement Ceremony with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts Buddy made a motion to table the discussion until Colonel Judge is available. Motion was seconded and passed. • Veterans Benefits Fair Per David it is still in process. • Middle School Plaque Buddy made a motion to table the discussion. Motion was seconded and passed. New Business - • Tracy Wood is working with Christine Babcock, Tracy is a former marine and gives refresher course to veterans in Math and Creative Writing. • American Legion Riders is sponsoring a ride to benefit the Patton Veteran Project. Discussion will be tabled until more information is available. • Bruce Doig sent a letter to David Perinchief requesting a camp scholarship for a child of a veteran to attend camp at Lynch Park. Discussion will be tabled until more information is available. • Bridget Ball is working with the Gloucester Elks on a Welcome Home dinner. She mentioned that Grants are available on the national level. Tim and Bob will help her with contacts for Beverly Elks. • Ken McKay is out of cleaning solution for cleaning the graves. David made a motion to donate $200.00 for him to purchase more solution. Motion was seconded and passed. Good of the Order - • VFW 545 and Beverly Vietnam Veterans are having a joint dinner dance and scholarship night on April 21" at the ICC. Tickets are available for $30 and can be obtained from Chuck Clark. • Tim Smith will be planning a veterans fishing trip and will distribute the information when it is available. • Coffee and donuts at the Vittori Rocci is continuing Saturdays 8:30am- 10:30am. There has been a great turn out and more people are showing up every week. Buddy made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Motion was seconded and carried. The next meeting will be held on April 26, 5pm @ City Hall.
