Cahill Mayor Referred to Legal Affairs #053 March 19, 2018 The Honorable City Council City Hall Beverly, MA 01915 Dear Honorable City Council: I am pleased to inform you that the City of Beverly, through the Beverly Planning Department, has received earmark funding from the Massachusetts Marketing Partnership / Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism (MMP /MOTT) in support of the City's ongoing effort to rehabilitate the GAR Hall. On behalf of the people of Beverly, I want to express our city's deep gratitude to Senator Joan Lovely, Representative Jerry Parisella and their staff for the great work they all did to secure this important funding to aid our preservation efforts for this historic building. The MMP/MOTT has contributed to the restoration of the historic GAR Hall through a state contract $50,000. This funding will allow Beverly to hire an architect to complete the design services restoration of the front and side facades of the building, and will allow the rehabilitation of the handicap access ramp at the rear of the building — a necessary improvement to bring the building into compliance with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards. Should any additional funding be left after these two aspects of the GAR Hall's restoration, the funds will be put toward electrical improvements that are also an aspect of the building's full restoration. Massachusetts General Law Chapter 44 Section 53Arequires that any grants, gifts or contributions to the city must be presented to the Council for approval prior to expending said funds. Therefore, I respectfully ask your approval of this funding in the amount of $50,000 to be used toward the projects noted above and in support of the funding award stipulations. Please initiate action on this matter at you next City Council meeting scheduled for March 19, 2018. Sincerely yours, Michael P.
