October 2 2017 minutesBeverly Council on Aging Board of Directors Meeting Minutes Date October 3, 2017 Place: Beverly Council on Aging Senior Community Center Members Present: Bob Hobbs, Claire -Marie Hart, Cynthia Montalbano Staff Present: MaryAnn Holak Meeting Called to Order: 2:35 pm by Claire -Marie Hart, Co- Chairperson Secretary's Report September minutes accepted as written. Director's Report Building Concerns and Usage • The building Dept. has a job request from the center to prune the maple tree on the corner of the BCOA building. • Brendan is filling in for Chip Palmer while he is on vacation. • The Planning Dept. will be using the building in October. Chip will cover the date. • Monday & Wednesday evenings October - December the Recreation Dept. will be using the building. • On October Y all smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in the building were tested. • October 17 a Flu Clinic was held in the building. Administration and Finance Mary Ann distributed and discussed the Executive Office of Elder Affairs eight page Annual Report with the Board. Page two of the report focuses on the many services provided by the BCOA. The FY' 18 budget expenditure was reviewed with the board. Programs and Events Another Great BBQ was held at the Center, sponsored by the Electric Insurance Company. Thirty people were in attendance to have coffee with Mayor Cahill. Some discussions were around growing up in Beverly. We have experienced great enthusiasm and feedback from participants of the Aging Mastery program. The participants of this program will graduate on October 12 November 2n from 3 to 6 pm, the center will be celebrating 25 years of service to the senior community at our current location with an Open House highlighting our varied programs. Photo Voice Project is underway with Amy and Jessica. Breakfast Club will have its first meeting on October 12 Coffee Hour will take place with Fire Chief on October 18 th . Halloween Party will be held on October 19 come in costume, there will be music and dancing lunch will be served. Tickets are $5.00. Greg will be attending a Health Fair on Saturday, October 14 Harvard Pilgrim at BHS Campus. Meetings /Activities /Clients MCOA Conference will take place at the Double Tree in Danvers. (Formerly Ferncroft) Jessica will attend three days Mary Ann will attend two. MaryAnn invited Board members to lunch and a speech by Governor Charlie Baker at the MCOA Conference being held at the Double Tree in Danvers this year. Please let MaryAnn know if you would like to attend Wednesday October 18 Lunch Noon tol2:45 - $35.00 Speech 12:45 to 2:15 pm Register for speech only, no charge Mary Ann attended a Saturday Conference at the Brandeis Life Long Learning Institute focused on housing and technology. Mary Ann met with candidate Julie Flowers running for Councilor at Large. Personnel Updates The Conference on Managing Multiple Projects and Priorities was attended by Patti Rice. MSW position still has not been filled. Committee Reports Scholarship The Scholarship Committee did not meet today. Awards The list of potential nominees for the "Wall of Fame" was discussed. The Board reviewed the nominees and selections were made. Presentation is scheduled for l0a.m. on November 14 New Business No new business discussed.
