Meeting Called to Order: 2:35 pm by Claire -Marie Hart, Co- Chairperson
Secretary's Report August 2017 meeting minutes were accepted as written with one exception
Eric Depiero worked with both Jessica Waggett and Chip Palmer this summer.
Director's Report
Building Concerns
The sprinkler system has been repaired.
Administration and Finance
MaryAnn reviewed the FYI 8 budget expenditures with the Board
The part -time social worker vacancy has been posted in several places — hope to attract a good
field of candidates
The state formula grant amount will be cut this year, but a final amount has not been announced
Caitlin Coyle interview on Bev Cam should be aired in September
Programs and events
Senior Day in the Park — Patti Rice joined the meeting to discuss the wrap up of Senior Day in
the Park. She reported that we held a "zero waste" event with only one bag of trash that could
not be recycled. Pretty impressive for an event with over 500 people in attendance. She reported
there were 36 paying sponsors of the day and that $3,600 was made in ticket sales. The Board
gave Patti a gift card as a thank you for all of her work and the success of the event.
Fire prevention program with Red Cross is underway
Aging Mastery program is underway — going very well
100 Farmers market coupons valued at $25 were distributed — mostly at the Senior Center.
Jessica had a table at the Farmer's Market to distribute on site.
Planning is underway for the 25 Anniversary celebration in November 2017
September is Senior Center month and the Electric Insurance Company BBQ is scheduled for
Sept. 20 with a "hoe down" theme.
Meetings /Activities /Clients
MCOA hosted a regional meeting at the Center on 8/31/17 and the topic was Age and Dementia
Friendly communities.
A "Conversations for Caring" program on Driver Decision Making was held on 8/8/17 with over
100 people in attendance. This was coordinated by GLSS.
MaryAnn and Jessica met with Sue Gabriel from Bootstraps to discuss possibilities of our
becoming a mobile market site. Sue is submitting a grant proposal to the CHNA for possible
funding. MaryAnn wrote a letter of support for the grant.
Jessica attended orientation for the new community engagement fellow who started at the end of
August.
MaryAnn updated the Board on two clients of concern and the meetings that were held to
address the fight they engaged in on the bus.
MaryAnn met with police chief, John Lelacheur to discuss a serious incident that she needed to
debrief with him.
Personnel Updates
Leanna Johnson and Eric DePiero were great summer employees. They completed their work in
mid to late August and now back in school.
Amy Gothing is our new Community Engagement Fellow, she began on August 21, 2017 and
will complete 25 hours a week.
Lisa S. a SSU undergrad social work student will start her internship on 9/12.
Committee Reports
Scholarship Committee — the committee approved three trip requests and a voucher for new
shopping cart.
Awards Committee - the awards committee will be working on distributing nomination forms
for the "Wall of Fame" consideration.
Unfinished Business
The UMASS survey is complete. Postcards will be sent to 3,000 individuals over the age of 60
during the last week of September. The actual survey will be mailed the first week of October.
New Business
There was no new business and the meeting adjourned at 3:39p.m.
Next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 2:30pm.
