August 2017 MinutesBCOA Director's Report Date August 1, 2017 Place: Beverly Council on Aging Senior Community Center Bob Hobbs, Cynthia Montalbano, Claire -Marie Hart, Staff Present: Mary Ann Holak, JessicaWaggett Patti Rice Meeting Called to Order: 2:35 pm by Claire -Marie Hart, Co- Chairperson Secretary's Report June meeting minutes were accepted as written. Activities Coordinator, Patti Rice began the meeting with information on Senior Day in the Park. Currently we have 420 seniors registered to attend along with 32 vendors. Patti gave the Board Volunteers their assignments for the event. Looking forward to a wonderful event. Director's Report Red Cross fire prevention partners with Rotary to install smoke detectors in the fall. Aging Mastery Program 7/27 thru 10/12 offered through the Ma Council on aging grant. The Grant cost is $4,000.00 dollars. Center is distributing coupons to qualifying seniors for $25.00 to any farmers market in Massachusetts. Mary Ann is looking into how seniors from other communities are being helped with the problem of snow removal. Discussion and hand out from the Globe issued on July 29, 2017 on elderly residents struggle to pay bills. Building The charge for the sprinkler system repair is $ 50.00 less than expected. No show for actual repair; the balance will be in the final grant. Administration and Finance Mary Ann discussed the changes implemented by City Hall to the way money is collected and reconciled at the front desk. Administration and Finance /continued Cuts to the Formula Grant were announced; the final amount has not yet been reported. Discussion on the Budget that is currently at 97% Senior Care RFP issued for Title III B federal funds submitted. Meetings /Activities /Clients Senior Living Advocates /nurses helping seniors with issues. Driving Decision Making Conference to take place on August 8th Jessica will be attending a Merrimack Fellowship meeting on August 9th Mary Ann attended a two evening session, a focus group, on strategic planning for the Library, which is required to have a plan as part of their certification. Clients of Concern and suspensions... Programs and Events Coffee with the Chief was well attended. Senior Day in the Park Fall Fire Prevention -Smoke Detector collaboration with the Red Cross. Farmers Market Coupons Committee Reports The Awards Committee met on June 27 Awards Committee- Senior of the Year Nomination was chosen from applications submitted to the Board. Committee Reports /Continued Scholarship Committee met today at 2pm. The Committee approved 5 trips and 1 air conditioner. We have 5 additional air conditioning units available in house. Personnel Updates Montserrat College intern Andrew will be leaving on August 2nd Summer Activities Assistant Leanna Johnson Eric DePiero, a student in middle school will be helping with clerical duties as well as assisting Chip with janitorial duties.
