Meeting Minutes

Secretary's Report May meeting minutes were accepted as written.
Director's Report
Building
The sprinkler system is in need of replacement on the side of the building. The cost is
approximately one thousand dollars.
The MBTA meeting regarding the shutdown, will take place this evening.
Gale Associates conducted a two hour audit of the center. The report is pending.
Administration and Finance
Mary Ann discussed the budget report in length. We have spent 89.1% of the budget to date.
The rest of the budget is in line. The remainder of the Elder Affairs Grant is going towards the
UMass bill.
June 9 an audit of financial practices at the Senior Center will take place.
The audit will cover how we handle financial transactions for trips etc.
An allocation from our FYI 8 City and Formula grant budgets will be designated for a part time
social worker.
Senior Care RFP issued for Title III B federal funds -we currently are receiving funding for
outreach. We are re- applying for a $5000.00 dollar grant.
Legal opinion on a questionable advertiser in our newsletter was received.
Programs and Events
May was Senior Month. All of the many events scheduled were well received.
Coffee Hour with the Director went well, and many suggestions were received.
May 9 1h the meeting with the Mayor Cahill went well.
Beverly Council is sponsoring a table at City Hall for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on
June 10 th .
A program on Downsizing for Homeowners will be held on June 13
This year is the tenth year anniversary for our Girl Scout Tea. Mary Ann suggested we mark the
event with a citation.
Shredding Day we had 166 cars go through.
The Garden is in!
Committee Reports
The Awards Committee will meet on June 27 th .
Awards Committee- Senior of the Year Nomination Applications is available at the Senior
Center and has been placed in our newsletter for distribution. Applications are available at the
library, schools, and churches.
Scholarship Committee met today at 2pm.
Scholarship recipient sent a lovely thank you note after being granted monies for a writing class.
Three scholarships were approved for air conditioners.
Two scholarships were approved for the Bobby Darling show and Clambake taking place
York, Maine.
One scholarship to attend Connecticut by the Sea. Travel to Mystic, Ct., tour the Submarine
Force Museum then enjoy lunch at the Steak loft Restaurant.
A total of six Scholarships were awarded this month.
Meetings /Activities/ Clients
Mary Ann and Jessica attended Elder Abuse training, Domestic Violence Unit, San Antonio.
Mary Ann attended an Elder Behavioral Mental Health seminar offered by EOEA.
MaryAnn attended two evening session of strategic planning for the Library, which is required to
have a plan as part of their certification.
Personnel Updates
We will have a Montserrat College Intern this summer.
Merrimack Fellow will be starting in August.
