Cook calls the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
Sign: Boston Smoke Shop - 321 Cabot Street
The applicant is proposing a wall sign and a projecting sign. The wall sign will have
individual black letters illuminated with internal LED lights. Finch expresses concern
about the illumination creating a halo and notes that illuminated signs have been
discouraged on Cabot Street. The applicant responds that the letters will not create a halo.
Crosbie notes that projecting signs are only allowed a maximum of 7 square feet in area
and cannot extend more than 4 feet from the facade of the building. The applicant
responds that the sign can be reduced to that size. Cook expresses concern about the
awning being removed as it makes the building seem unbalanced, but also notes that this
is only a suggestion and not criteria for approval.
There being no further questions or comments regarding this matter:
Crosbie: Moves to approve the wall sign as presented and to approve the projecting
sign with the condition that it be reduced in size to 7 square feet and
extend no more than 4 feet. Margolis seconds the motion. The motion
carries (6 -0).
Sign: Abundance Chiropractic - 16 Elliott Street
The applicant is proposing a wall sign to replace the previous wall sign that was taken
down. The new sign will be in the same location. The color of the sign will be purple to
match the building.
The applicant says that lighting may be added in the future, but they want to be sensitive
to the other tenants and neighbors. Crosbie responds that they can talk with her when they
are ready to add lighting.

Cook: Moves to approve the wall sign as presented. Flannery seconds the
motion. The motion carries (6 -0).
Draft Meeting Minutes
Crosbie asks if there are any questions or edits to the meeting minutes from the June,
November, December and January meetings.
There being no further questions or comments regarding this matter:
Flannery: Moves to approve the June 2, November 2, December 1, 2016, and the
January 5, 2017 minutes. Cook seconds the motion. The motion carries (6-
0).
New /Other Business
Crosbie shares sign ordinances from other towns that she has researched as the Design
Review Board considers re- working their ordinance as it pertains to the regulation of sign
content.
Adjournment
Cook asks if there is any other business to come before the Design Review Board this
evening. There being none:
Cook: Moves to adjourn the meeting. Flannery seconds the motion. The motion
carries (6 -0).
