November 1 2016 minutesBeverly Council on Aging Board of Directors Meeting Minutes Date: November 1, 2016 Place: Beverly Council on Aging Senior Community Center Cynthia Montalbano, Claire -Marie Hart, Larry Albert, Jessica Wistran, Esquire, Annie Horrigan Staff Present: MaryAnn Holak, Jessica Waggett Bruce Doig, Director of Parks, Recreation & Community Services Meeting Called to Order: 2.35 pm by Claire -Marie Hart Co- Chairperson Secretary's Report October minutes accepted as written_ Director's Report Building Recreation Dept_ Programs started on Mondays and Wednesday evenings_ Police Dept_ will use the BCOA Hall for a Holiday party on December 3r It was a very busy day in October when the Board of health hosted a successful Flu Clinic_ A police report was filed regarding the theft of holiday pumpkins and decorations that had been placed in the front of the building welcoming the fall season_ Beverly Community Council meeting was held here in October topic was career paths for youth with representatives from NSCC, NS Career Center and a few others on the panel Administration and Finance Jessica reported that we applied for Community Council Grant award of $350.00 for a photo voice project in the Spring_ MaryAnn reviewed the budgets for the first 4 months of the fiscal year_ EOEA informed COA that the Formula grant will be held at the FY" 16 level of $9 per senior with the possibility that the $8,189 being held back with be reinstated within FY' 17_ Enclosed with the board packet was a copy of the FY' 16 Annual Report to the Executive Office of Elder Affairs_ Programs and Events A Successful Craft Fair was held at the Council on November 3 d _ The Fair ran from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm_ A Thanksgiving Day Parry is planned for November 17 th _ A Veterans Day Event featuring the Navy Band will take place on November 8 th _ Election Day rides to the polls will be available to seniors_ Center held two Driver decision making workshops in October to help people with how to determine when it is time to take the keys away_ A brochure entitle "driving decision making" is in the works through our collaboration with GLSS_ The First Breakfast Club Meeting at BHS will take place on November 17 Tax meeting with RSVP and AARP took place to plan for upcoming tax season Enhanced Fitness Program offered by Y three times a week - M/W at the Center and Friday at the Y_ 2.30 to 3.30 pm_ Additional information will be available at the desk_ Game night underway, Tufts Foundation is supporting it with an $800 donation Meetings /Activities /Clients MCOA Conference - October 26 -27 Conference was attended by Mary Ann, Patti, and Jessica_ High Risk Task Force met last month_ First Responder Training to be held on November 14 4.30 to 8.30 pm At the Cummings Center_ Elder Affairs is funding this training_ Next November will be the 25 anniversary of this building_ Staff committee are meeting to discuss ideas for the occasion_ Staff met with the Seniorcare, Inc_ Nutrition Program manager's to discuss quality, ideas and solutions_ Personnel Updates At this time we have no applications for part time bus drivers_ This is a difficult hire due to the 19 'h hour work week_ Committee Reports Scholarship Committee One scholarship was considered and awarded this month_ Unfinished Business MaryAnn asked members to read the draft of "standards of independence" and provide feedback for same_ J Wistran will review and meet with MaryAnn to discuss the document_ New Business We are collecting for the holiday goodie bags beginning on November 1' Donations may be dropped off at BCOA or the City Hall_ Bags are delivered to seniors who are living in impoverished situations_ Next Meeting will be Tuesday December 6, 2016 2:30 pm Respectfully Submitted by_ Cynthia A_ Montalbano, Secretary
