Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Margaret Altman, Mary Behrle, Marshall Handly, Neil Olson, Kevin O'Reilly, and Joanne Panunzio Board members absent: Anthony Kline, Myron Schirer -Suter Others present: Patricia Cirone, Anna Langstaff, Bruce Doig Recorder: Anna Langstaff Kevin O'Reilly presided. Joanne Panunzio made the motion, seconded by Neil Olson, to accept the minutes of the regular meeting of December 15, 2015 as read. Motion passed. Public Presentation None Committee Reports Personnel: No report. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Long Range Planning: Patricia Cirone reviewed FY2016 action plan. Report of the Library Director 1) FY2016 Budget: Patricia Cirone reviewed FY2016 budget. 2) Personnel: Part-time vacancy at the Farms has been filled. There is an opening in the children's room for a part-time librarian. 3) Building Issues: There are problems with the generator. Repairs may require a delayed opening time. 4) Community Assessment Grant: Paperwork for community assessment grant has been submitted. 5) Security: Active shooter training for all employees was held January 22. Patricia Cirone is also looking into additional security measures to improve safety and security, such as keypad entry for the staff door and additional staff training. 6) NOBLE: Latest Evergreen upgrade was installed in January. NOBLE is working on the final details for the launch of credit card acceptance. 7) Beverly Historic Newspapers: Patricia Cirone met with David Gelineau and a representative from Newsbank regarding proposal to digitize some of the Beverly historic newspapers. 8) Young Adult Expansion: Patricia Cirone met with David Gelineau regarding the architect's proposal for the young adult area expansion. 9) Hotspots: Still need to work out a few issues before hotspots will be ready to circulate. 10) New and Upcoming Services: ComicsPlus, ArtistWorks, Niche Academy, and VHS to DVD converter. 11) Materials Selection Policy: Patricia Cirone is updating the materials selection policy. Communications 1) Legislative breakfast February 26, 2016 Chelmsford Public Library. Unfinished Business None New Business 1) Security: There have been several disturbing instances recently. Some staff do not feel safe in the building. Patricia Cirone is looking into the possibility of hiring a security guard. Library trustees discussed security concerns. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Marshall Handly, to: show the trustees' continued concern by having the Chair and one or more trustees speak to the city administration regarding a safe work environment at the library. Motion passed The next meeting of the board will be Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 6:30 PM at the Main Library. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 PM.
