2015-05-261City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: Tuesday, May 26, 2015 6:30 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Mary Behrle, Neil Olson, Kevin O'Reilly, Joanne Panunzio, and Myron Schirer -Suter Board members absent: Margaret Altman, Marshall Handly, Anthony Kline Others present: Patricia Cirone, Anna Langstaff Recorder: Anna Langstaff Kevin O'Reilly presided. Joanne Panunzio made the motion, seconded by Mary Behrle, to accept the minutes of the regular meeting of April 28, 2015 as read. Motion passed. Public Presentation None Committee Reports Personnel: No report. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Long Range Planning: No report. Report of the Library Director 1) FY2015 Budget: Patricia Cirone reviewed the current budget. Overall the budget should come in on target. 2) FY2016 Proposed Budget: The Mayor made some changes to the library's proposed budget reinstating proposed reductions in electric and heating line items and re- allocating the difference from other line items. Patricia Cirone has some questions about these re- allocations. 3) Building: Waiting for new shelving for third floor to arrive. In the meantime, weeding continues and some tables have been moved into that area. Waiting to hear back about getting more electrical outlets on the third floor. 4) Capstone: There has been additional damage to the capstone. Looking for a temporary fix, but there is no plan in place. Waiting to hear back from Mike Collins. 5) Building Needs: Patricia Cirone has given Bruce Doig a list of the top ten building repair needs at the Main Library and the Farms Branch to work with Mike Collins on getting fixed. 6) Bookmobile: Bookmobile is back on the road. 7) Van: Bruce Doig is going to look at used vans from the school department to see if one would be usable for the library. 8) New Computers: The young adult department will be getting two new computers to replace the old gaming computers. 9) Self- Checkout: The library is moving forward on implementing self - checkout. 10) Unipay: Unipay, the city's vendor for accepting credit and debit card payments, has been implemented. 11) Steam Cleaner: The library would like to purchase a steam cleaner. 12) MLA and NHLTA meetings: Several staff members attended MLA and NHLTA meetings. 13) Reader's Advisory: The library will be making more of an emphasis on reader's advisory services with sending some staff to reader's advisory meetings and starting a genre study in- house. The library is already offering individualized reading lists for adults, teens and children. 14) Security: Patricia Cirone has discussed with Bruce Doig the lack of police walk - throughs as promised. Kevin O'Reilly will write a letter to the Mayor. 15) Library Website: The library is working on a responsive website. 16) Trustee Vacancy: Patricia Cirone has not heard back from the Mayor regarding the trustee vacancy. 17) Beverly Citizen Article: The Beverly Citizen ran an extensive article on the teen poetry contest. 18) Upcoming Programs and Events: multi - generational music program; Book Bouquets; i- toddler programs; Quiet Corner of the War; musical mornings with Miz Liz; LGBTQ book group; summer reading kick -off, Farms library lawn party; senior symposium at the Senior Center. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15PM.
