2015-11-10Beverly Council on Aging Board of Directors Meeting Minutes Date: November 10, 2015 Place: Beverly Council on Aging Senior Community Center Board Members Present: Blair Smith Bob Hobbs, Cynthia Montalbano, Jessica Wistran, Ann Horrigan, Larry Albert Staff Present: MaryAnn Holak, Jessica Waggett Meeting Called to Order: 2.35 pm Secretary's Report October meeting notes accepted with the following addition; Jessica and Blair agreed to serve on a Standard of Behavior Committee, with the charge of reviewing and revising the existing Standards policy_ Director's Report Building The Grease trap will be replaced or repaired_ Gutters will be cleaned and repaired sometime this month_ Administration and Finance The new bus still has not arrived_ The old bus is still here waiting to be removed_ Someone will be coming in from Alabama to take the old bus_ A license for a Podiatrist has been provided by the City Solicitor's Office The MA Council on Aging (MCOA) to discuss Standards of Independence_ This is on the agenda at the next MCOA board meeting_ Mary Ann reported to the Board on the YTD budget_ Finances are in line_ She noted that Longevity checks for employees with over 10 years of service will be issued in December_ Programs and Events BHS Breakfast Club, Mr_ Bauer, Assistant Principal and Football Coach sent 19 senior football players to the first Breakfast Club meeting_ It was a great program but we are hoping to add new students and female students to the program_ Grandparents support group is ongoing, meeting once a month_ They are in the process of planning of a Frozen event, with plans to have the movie character, Elsa in attendance_ ROTC First Responders Dinner -50 attendees from police and fire departments enjoyed a dinner of chicken, ziti and lasagna_ TRIAD volunteers served as hostesses and ROTC students from BHS provided a color guard and flag salute and helped to serve the meal and clean up_ A going away parties to be held for Annie on November 18 from 9.30 to 10 for staff and Board in Rec Room A_ Seniors will attend from 10 -11 -in the Arts and Craft Room_ Mary Ann discussed the Falls Prevention campaign currently underway_ Meetings /Activities /Clients Jessica reported she facilitated a monthly meeting of the High Risk Task Force_ The Agenda included deliberation on helping people in need and keeping standards of confidentiality_ Discussion on developing a magnet/card that EMT's can leave at homes of at risk seniors when they are called there_ We are working on setting up an "Active Shooter" Staff training with Officer Russo of the Beverly Police Department_ MaryAnn is working with the Mayor's Office on a template for a Property Tax Work Off Program_ Personnel updates Annie Misarski, our Activities Coordinator will be moving on to a position in the private sector in Portsmouth, NH_ We wish her well_ We are still looking to hire a part time custodian for 18 hours/week- We are still looking into hire a licensed social worker who would potentially serve as a case manager for clients of concern_ Committee Reports Scholarship Committee 2 trips were unavailable, seniors will reapply in 2016 Money for a new fridge previously approved was not used_ The client repaired her existing fridge_ Scholarship money for a "Lifetime Spoon" awarded in the amount of $295.00 This utensil allows a senior with tremors to feed themselves_ Awards Committee — did not meet Standards of Independence Committee — did not meet New Business: Unfinished Business: Announcements: Adjournment: 3:40 pm Next meeting will be Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 2:30 pm Respectfully Submitted by_ Cynthia A_ Montalbano, Secretary
