BCOA MEETING NOTES

Place= Beverly Council on Aging Senior Community Center
Board Members Present= Blair Smith Bob Hobbs, Cynthia Montalbano, Claire -Marie Hart

Staff Present: MaryAnn Holak and Jessica Waggett
Meeting Called to Order= 2.35 pm
Secretary's Report
September notes were accepted as written_
Director's Report
Building
The grease trap is emitting an odor and is in need of repair or replacement_
The board will be updated_
Heating and cooling units are in need of replacement in both the pool room and the arts and craft
room_
After the storms last year it is necessary to replace gutters_ The work is scheduled for
November_
The Friendly Garden Club will be planting bulbs now to bloom in the spring_
Main Street has requested use of the Centers Buses to do a transport for an event
on October 17 Mary Ann will keep us updated, may be an insurance issue_
The City Attorney has requested that a license be developed for a Podiatrist to work
at the Center_ Looking at a flat fee to be charged to the Podiatrist of five hundred dollars
a month_
Administration and Finance
Mary Ann reported to the Board on the YTD budget_
YTD expenditures are 24 %_
West Beach Corp has given a donation in memory of Virginia Walsh in the amount of $3,400.00_
Program and Events
Thursday September 17 the Electric Insurance Company hosted a BBQ_
The event was great 130 people enjoyed the food and entertainment by a Barber Shop quartet_
Curious Creatures Breakfast event was a great time_
A discussion on the Breakfast Club that will be staring up soon_
Committee Reports
Scholarship Committee
Blair reported that six trips were approved_ _
Awards Committee
No scheduled meeting at this time_
By laws committee did not meet-
Meetings/Activities/Clients
The Triad meeting will be held on October 22n At 10.30 am at the Center_
Bob and Blair attended a meeting at Senior Care_
The BCOA volunteers received the Outstanding Crew Award_
Jessica attended a mental health training program_ The program focus was to understand
support and recognize mental health issues_
Mary Ann led a discussion around the Property tax work off program_
Jessica and Cynthia attended a regional board training on September 9, 2015
Personnel updates
We are looking to hire a part time custodian for 18 hours_
We are looking to hire a part time van driver_
We are looking to hire a licensed social worker_
New Business:
A new committee to address standards of behavior when special needs people begins
to age /merge into the BCOA_
