1703-04-22[Selectmen's Meeting April 22, 1703] The selectmen of the town of Salem sent the following notification, viz.: To the selectmen of Beverly, or those that may be appointed to perambulate the bounds between Salem and Beverly, or whom it may confirm - Greetings. For as much as by the appointment of the Selectmen of Salem the day of the date hereof, was appointed to perambulate the bounds between said towns, and notification being sent to the Selectmen of Beverly, from those of Salem according, and it proving a very wet, foul day, and there being wanting ranging bounds, which will take some time to perform. These are to signify to you that the persons appointed to perambulate said bounds, will attend said service on Tuesday the 27th day of this instant, month, at nine of the clock in the morning, and the house of Mr. Nathaniel Hayward is appointed for place of meeting; dated this 20th day of April, 1703 per order of the selectmen; & if that should prove a rainy day, then the Tuesday following. In observance of a notification given by the Selectmen of Salem, to the Selectmen of Beverly directed At a meeting of the Selectmen on the 22n of April 1703, the Selectmen appointed, empowered and desired Capt. John Dodge, Capt. William Raymond, Capt. William Dodge, Mr. Isaac Woodbury and Mr. Jonathan Rayment or any two of them, to perambulate the bounds between the town of Salem and the town of Beverly, on the 27th day of April, at nine of the clock on said day, to meet at the house of Mr. Hayward's in Salem. In observance of the notification given by the Selectmen of Wenham, and directed into the Selectmen of Beverly, to perambulate the bounds between the said town of Wenham and Beverly. These may certify the Selectmen of the town of Wenham or whom it may concern, that the Selectmen of the town of Beverly have appointed, empowered & desired Capt. John Dodge, Capt. William Dodge, Mr. Thomas Woodbury, Mr. Robert Briscoe, and Mr. Edward Dodge or any three of them, to perambulate the bounds between the town of Wenham and the town of Beverly, according to the first grant as the law directs, and to meet with the gentlemen of Wenham at the house of Mr. Luke Perkins in Beverly, at eight of the clock in the forenoon, on the 13th day of this instant, May. Dated in Beverly the 5 u, of May 1703. Per order of the selectmen.
