1703-01-05[Selectmen's Meeting January 5, 1703] At a meeting of the Selectmen on the 5th day of January, 1702/3, then reckoned with Benjamin Ellingwood for the town rate committed to him in the year 1700, and there is due to the town upon the account of said town rate upon balance of the same, one pound, thirteen shillings. At the same meeting of the Selectmen, reckoned with Lot Conant, for the town rate committed to him in the year 1701, and he hath fully cleared for the same. At the same time Benjamin Ellingwood brought the following receipt. Received of Benjamin Ellingwood formerly Constable of Beverly, the sum of six pounds, four shillings and four pence upon the country rate, it being so much for him to collect, by order of the Selectmen of said town. John Appleton, County Treasurer, Ipswich, April 30, 1702. At the same meeting of the Selectmen January the 5th, 1702/3, it being the same time when the Selectmen reckoned with Benjamin Ellingwood & Lot Conant, for the town rate committed to them in the year 1701, then paid to Jonathan Rayment forty shillings for his clerkship in the year 1701, has also delivered to Jonathan Rayment of the town's money twenty and three shillings. At the same meeting of the selectmen were two lists of Mr. Blowers' rate for his salary for the year 1702, and for the last fifty pounds of his settlement, made and delivered to Samuel Herrick and Caleb Wallis, constables, amounting to £135:03:10, to pay to the Rev. Mr. Blowers £130: 00:00 and the overplus to be delivered to William Dodge, Treasurer, the list committed to Samuel Herrick to collect and pay amounting to £62: 14:10, whereof he is to pay to Mr. Blowers £61:10 and the remainder to the said William Dodge, Treasurer; and the list committed to Caleb Wallis to collect and pay amounting to £72:09:00 whereof he is to pay to Mr. Blowers £68:10:00 and the remainder to William Dodge, Treasurer; the said Samuel Herrick and Caleb Wallis, constables, are also ordered in the warrant to issue and make up an account with the said Mr. Blowers and the said William Dodge at or before the last day of March, 1703.
