1696-06-10[Selectmen's Meeting June 10, 1696]
At a meeting of the selectmen on thelOth of June 1696, whereas there was three acres of land formerly
laid out to Richard Thissell out of our town's common land, said land being to make satisfaction to the
said Richard Thissell for a cart highway, a town's highway which runneth through the said Richard
Thissell, his ground, by agreement between then selectmen and the above said Richard Thissell as appears
by word on our old town book bearing date the 11th 1st month' 1680/81, but the bounds of said land not
being expressed in said record, these are to signify that said three acres of land, being more or less, are
bounded as followeth viz. firstly, at the northwest corner with a black oak tree, now fallen down, and a
stake and a stone put in the place, and so on a straight line to another black oak tree at the southwest
corner and from thence on a straight -line to a pretty big buttonwood tree, at the northeast corner, and from
there to a black birch tree marked on four sides, standing by the edge of a brook or flow, being at the
southeast corner of said three acres of land, and from said birch on a straight line to the first bound above -
mentioned, the abovesaid black oak buttonwood tree being also marked.
At the same meeting of the selectmen on the 10th day of June 1696, was also bounded out to the above
said Richard Thissell, one half acre of our town's common land, be it more or less lying and adjoining to
the three -acre lot of land above said, and is bounded as followeth, that is to say, westwardly with the three
acres of land above said and on the southeast corner with a stake standing close by a low black stump
with stones about said state, on a straight line from the black birch above - mentioned and so from said
stake and stones to another stake with stones about it, being at the northeast corner of said half acre of
land, and about three pole and six foot from the buttonwood tree, above said, to run on a straight line from
said buttonwood tree to the stake and stone next above - mentioned, the which half acre of land is to mark
payment to the above said Richard Thissell for his serving of the town as overseer of our town's common
land for the prevention of the waste and spoil of wood and timber on our town's common and according
to record bearing date March the 23rd, 1695/6.
