Meeting 09A called to order at 6.35 p.m.
The OPM (ML) made opening remarks=
• The meeting was scheduled to allow members of the SBC an opportunity to interact with
the project team in a less formal and more interactive setting.
The Designer (Scott & Troy) showed the "old" and presented the "Updated" floor plans and site
plan and made the following points=
A lot of progress has been made
The adjustments and changes are consistent with the fundamentals of the educational plan
and are believed to be improvements

Beverly School Building Committee
Draft Minutes — March 31, 2015
• The updated version contains a secure outdoor learning space on the exterior of the
building rather than the earlier version which had an enclosed outdoor learning space in
the interior
• The design team met with Superintendent Hiersche and members of the educational staff_
The staff supports the modifications
• The neighborhoods remain similar; the overall organization of the building has been
modified to increase efficiency and better support the educational program
• The modifications appear to improve the overall site layout for circulation, parking, and
convenient access to fields
• Maker/Builder spaces are now located closer to the dining area to allow easier access to
utilize the dining space
Dr_ Hiersche expressed his support for the updated layout and stated the staff was very
enthusiastic about the changes
There were a series of questions and much discussion_ In general the SBC participants expressed
support for the current layout_ Questions and discussion included the following=
• A question was asked about traffic and circulation specifically the access /egress to
Balche Street_ The designer indicated all roadways within the site will be wide enough to
accommodate two -way traffic_ The school department will have a large degree of
flexibility to modify and/or adjust the traffic patterns_ There will be a more detailed
traffic /circulation assessment during the SD and follow on design phases_
• A question was asked about the "stacking" of grades and expectation of separation
between the 5/6 & 7/8 academies_ The designer and school district staff explained their
view of grade separation and pointed out that access points to the upper floors and the
building in general were located in a way that provides and supports an appropriate level
of grade separation
• A question was raised on the auditorium capacity_ The auditorium will have an overall
capacity of approximately 750_ The fixed seating in the auditorium will be
approximately 450 and the Band/Chorus will be designed to accommodate an additional
seating capacity of approximately 300_
• A question was raised on the new location of the Maker/Builder/Project spaces_ The
designer commented the new locations allow for easier access to and use of the dining
spaces_
• A question was asked about the cooking function_ The designer noted the lower level
will house a full cooking kitchen and the upper dining area will house more a of a
warming kitchen
• A question was raised on the option of having more single level maker/building spaces as
opposed to the "high bay" (two story) spaces currently shown_ The designer indicated
Page 2 of 3
Beverly School Building Committee
Draft Minutes — March 31, 2015
the "high bay" approach provided a greater volume of maker/builder space and did not
increase the square footage_
• A question was raised on the view along the main corridor in particular along the dining
area_ The designer indicated they have software that will produce Photo - Realistic images
and they can also create a model that allows you to "walk through the space" and see
what is will look like once completed_
• A question was raised as to whether the areas between the corridor and the dining spaces
will have walls or will be open_ The design indicated these areas are open without hard
walls in the current version_ This can and will be studied further as thery will need to
address the acoustical concerns_
• A comment was raised about students crossing the driveway to get to the fields_ There
was much discussion about site circulation including an option to install gates in strategic
locations to improve safety /security and maintain a certain level of flexibility_
Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8 =05 p_m_
