May Meeting notes were approved as written_
Director's Report
Building
Plant Sale was held on May 30 at the Beverly Council on Aging by the Friendly Garden Club
of Beverly_ The Garden Club will pay Chips overtime, and plantings at the Center worth two
hundred dollars_
The dishwasher has been repaired_
Administration and Finance
Updated Report on Paratransit Services_ The state requires that the city provide paratransit
services for all the hours that the Shopper's Shuttle operates_ The Shopper's Shuttle does not
provide paratransit rides but the COA does as a regular course of business_ We are working
with the city planner to determine how to best meet the requirement_ The current proposal is that
the Planning Dept_ will budget for a 19.5 hour driver that would work at the Senior Center to
cover the hours that are necessary to meet the requirement_ If this occurs, we could open
transportation up to our regular riders as well and therefore extend our schedule for rides_ More
information will follow_

FY' 16 Budget Updated
Budget Hearings to take place at City Hall on June 3r on the Enterprise
Budget Hearings to take place at City Hall on June 4 th on the COA Budget
Program and Events
The many events highlighting Older Americans Month in May were very successful_
Mayor Cahill's Symposium for Older Adults will be held on Wednesday June 3
We are expecting an audience of 150 attendees_
Shredding Day to take place on Saturday, June 6 th _
Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 13 th _
Table will be set up and information to be distributed on Cabot Street in
front of the Cabot theatre_
BHS Interns and Poster Presentation at the high School went well
Work has now begun on the Community Garden, our volunteers are tending the garden
Bryant Ales, Finance Director City Hall will meet with the Board to discuss
the Enterprise Fund at an upcoming Board Meeting_
June 2n - newspaper account reports the arrest of a health care provider for abuse to the senior
in her care_ The arrest took place at the BCOA, without incident_ The alleged abuse had been
reported to Senior Care and had been under investigation for the last thirty days_
Committee Reports
Scholarship Committee Report
Blair Smith reported that nine scholarships were received_
Five for air conditioning units were granted
Two for assistance financing trips
One for a mattress, one for a refrigerator will go back to outreach for additional information_
Awards Committee
Bob Hobbs reported that the Committee will meet in advance of the next board meeting to
review nominatins to be presented to the full board on June 23r
Full board will review the nominations for Senior of the Year and make that important selection_
Board members received a copy of Policy and Procedures on the Senior of the Year Selection-
Meetings/Activities/Clients
Senior Day in the Park Organizational Meeting was held with Electric Insurance Comp_ reps_
And Seniorcare_
MaryAnn reported that protective services activities have been busy_
Personnel:
Molly submitted a Letter to the Editor which appeared in the May 15 issue of the
Salem News_ It was a retrospective of her time at the Center_
Molly Leblanc - Medeiros was our first Community Engagement Fellow, from Merrimack
College_ Good Luck Molly and thank you_
In August another Fellow from Merrimack College will begin at the Center in the roll
Of Community Engagement Director, at the BCOA _
Summer Activities Assistant hired to assist Annie for 10 weeks
Part time custodian position is available
New position — Part time 19 'h hour van driver to be created
