1694-04-23Gentlemen of Beverly the 23r of April 1694. These are to signify unto you, that Lieut. John Siblee, Constable Robert Leach and John Lee and John Eladthorpe, Thomas Tewbery or any three of them are appointed to perambulate on the bounds between Beverly and Manchester and for that end, do appoint to meet at the house of Mr. Thomas West at or before nine of the clock in the forenoon on Friday next, being the 27th of this instant, April and if the weather prove foul, then on Monday next, when we expect you will send persons from your town suitable for that work, per order of the selectmen of Manchester. Thomas Traexbery, clerk. This next above record is a true entry of an order from Manchester to Beverly entered this first day of May 1694. Samuel Balch Pursuant to the order from Manchester above written, the selectmen of Beverly being met together on the 24 of April 1694 did appoint Capt. Paul Thorndike, Deacon John Hill, Mr. Thomas West and Mr. Thomas Woodbury senr. to be with the gentlemen of Manchester, at the time and place above - named, who have attended to the same, make their returns as followeth viz. , We, whose names are underwritten being appointed by the towns of Manchester and Beverly to perambulate on the bounds on the line between said towns, do declare that on this instant 30th day of April 1694 we have perambulated on bounds on line between said towns, that is to say from the middle of the creek commonly called Chubb's Creek and to run in the same Creek, to a rock at the head of the Creek, where we renewed the said bounds by laying stones on said rock and thence to a white oak at the east end of the pond, called Pleasant Pond by the Turnip Swamp and have marked the said tree with M & B and other marks all which bounds are according to the settlement made by the said two towns on the 18 of February 1672, as appears by the return made by the persons then appointed by said towns.
