2015-05-04Beverly Council on Aging Board of Directors Meeting Minutes Date= May 4, 2015 Place= Beverly Council on Aging Senior Community Center Board Members Present= Larry Albert, Claire -Marie Hart, Bob Hobbs, Annie Horrigan, Cynthia Montalbano, Blair Smith, Jessica Wistran, Staff Present= MaryAnn Holak, Jessica Waggett Meeting Called to Order= 2.35 pm Secretary's Report April Meeting notes were approved as written_ Director's Report Administration and Finance Noon today MaryAnn met with the Board to discuss the FY "16 budget to be proposed_ Budget Plan FY' 16 Budget Source FY' 16 Proposed FY' 15 Actual City Budget $564,359 $564,247 *State Formula Grant $ 65,512 $ 63,088 Enterprise Fund $ 68,906 $ 81,406 Total Budget Plan $698,777 $708,741 *State Formula Grant $8.00 x 8,189 seniors — 2010 Federal Census Data Building The damage to the A/C unit from our winter weather is now under repair_ Landscaping looking nice just waiting for spring flowers_ Friendly Garden Club will once again hold a plant sale at the Center on May 30_ Program and Events • April 23 Earth Day Event —Three trees were planted at Gloucester Crossing and the entire neighborhood was cleaned as a collaboration between NSCDC and Senior Center and also Beverly Police, Beverly Public Services and several other entities_ A picnic lunch was shared by all as a celebration of the great work accomplished__ • June 3 Mayor's Symposium on Age Friendly Beverly • Breakfast Club held April 8 at BHS and April 30 at the Senior Center • BCOA had a booth at a Volunteer Event held at Danversport Yacht Club_ Event was funded by a mini -grant in honor of National Volunteer week_ • On April 18'', we hosted several Shore Country Day families for a Family Day of Volunteering - Families made Earth Day Bags gifts and Cards for Meals on Wheels clients • Breakfast Club will host its last meeting on April 30 Wonderful program and looking forward to holding many more in the future_ • Student interns from BHS developed a Healthy Aging Workshop to be presented at St_ John's and St_ Mary's Schools_ • April 24 Volunteer Dinner — Lovely affair, one hundred volunteers attended_ • Devan Collins will be joining us as our Merrimack Graduate Fellow in August 2015 • June 13 World Elder Abuse Day_ More information to follow_ • May is Older Americans Month the center will be offering the following; May 7 10 — Noon Mother's Day Party featuring songs from Denise Doucette_ May 7 4.30- 6.30p_m_ AARP's "Life Reimagined" Workshop with AARP Staff_ May 12 9.30 - 10.30a_m_ Coffee and Conversation with Director and Staff_ May 14 5 =00 -6.30 p-m_ You've got what it takes -Job Searching Today with Claire Marie Hart and Sandra Efstratiou_ May 20 11.30 to Noon `Get Gussied Up in Gold' Special Event_ May 21 3.30 -4_30 p-m_ Girl Scout Tea Party May 21 5 =00 -6.30 p-m_ "Dynamic Volunteering" Finding the right volunteering opportunities_ May 28 10 -Noon Memorial Day Luncheon with Singing Trooper, Dan Clarke- Meetings/Activities/Clients Abigail Butt, Outreach worker presented at two recent conferences on the topic of "Creative Outreach= How the City of Beverly Engaged its Aging Population_" MaryAnn and Jessica attended a wrap up session and poster presentation for the community engagement fellow at Merrimack College Molly and Andrea Rhodes from NSCDC led a Staff Training on Community Engagement for all COA staff Personnel Longtime employee Gordon Chase will retire on May 13_ Committees: Scholarship: Awards: Sr_ of the Year Nominations due on June 5, 2015 By -Laws: New Business: Unfinished Business: Larry Albert requested a copy of the goals for calendar year 2015_ Next Meeting will be June 2, 2015 2.30 p_m_ Respectfully Submitted by_ Cynthia A_ Montalbano, Secretary
