Secretary's Report
February Meeting minutes were approved as written_
Director's Report
Building
The freeze and snow has caused problems with our roof_ We have buckets everywhere
collecting water_ Sad but our roof is 4 and 'h years young_ The roof was only guaranteed for
3 years_ Mary Ann will pursue this with the roofer, and keep the board informed_
Chip had a tremendous amount of overtime due to snow removal and leaks throughout the
building_
The BCOA was closed February 2n 9 th and a late opening on the 10 due to the storms_
The Center was chose to be a "warming center" if needed during the Valentines week storm_
MaryAnn will work with Emergency Management in the off season to get a written plan for such
a "warming center" in place_
We experienced a very low volume of seniors attending the Center due to the cold weather
and snow fall_
Planning Board Meeting cancelled due to weather_ The next meeting will take place on
March 17 th _
The Board of Podiatry was contacted regarding the center acquiring a Podiatrist to work with the
seniors_ We want to make sure any legal or licensing issues are addressed in advance of
reopening the clinic_ Mary Ann is continuing to work with Kevin Corridan, Assistant City
Solicitor to work through this matter_
The AARP/RSVP Tax aide program is ongoing through April 9 1h here at the Center_
Friendly Garden Club has booked their annual Plant Sale for May 30 in the Main Hall_ Chip
will be paid overtime by the Club to help with set up on Friday afternoon and to manage logistics
on Saturday_ In lieu of a rental fee the Garden Club agreed to donate $200 of in -kind plantings
and landscaping at the Center_
Administration and Finance
Discussion on the YTD budget_
General Fund - payroll is 67% we are right on target_
Fuel bills pending at the moment spent so far $16,000_
Report on Elder Affairs Grant will take place at the March meeting_
Staff goals and objectives will be handed out at the next meeting_
New bus — June /July 2015
Jessica will be responsible for updating the City's web page with activities offered at
the BCOA to be posted regularly_
Program and Events
On March 5 th the documentary "I Remember Better When I Paint" will be shown in our main
hall in collaboration with Seniorcare_
On March 12 we are holding our annual St Patricks Day Party_
Salem Five to donate $600.00 to support the Breakfast Club-
Meetings/Activities/Clients
MaryAnn will participate in Career Day at Beverly High School on the topic of non -profit and
government jobs_
Seniorcare Valentine's Breakfast rescheduled new date is March 27 th _
Jessica has joined the Be Healthy task force which is facilitated by the Y_
Jessica and MaryAnn will attend an "Age Friendly Community Summit" sponsored by Tufts
Health Plan and the Boston Foundation on March 18th
Personnel Updates=
Committee
By Law Chairperson- Jessica Wistran, will review the by -laws draft and report at the
April meeting_
Scholarship Committee
No scholarships were approved this month_
New Business:
Discussion on the two hour Board training held at Endicott that was attended by several
members_ MaryAnn is looking into holding training for the entire board to be held at the BCOA
date to be announced_
Unfinished Business
MaryAnn is still working with the City Solicitor's Office regarding the Thome estate_
On May 24 2000 Marjorie Thome passed away_ Her will named BCOA, specifically the
"Building Fund" to receive one third of her estate, MaryAnn reported that $100,000.00 from the
estate is slated for the Enterprise Fund for the Center_
Next Meeting will be April 7 th 2015 - 2.30 pm
