Director's Report
Building
The building was closed all day on Monday, February 2, 2015 due to blizzard conditions_
Mary Ann attended the Emergency Management Meeting with the mayor, police, fire, and
emergency management director_ The senior center was being considered for a warming center_
Continued discussion showed that another location would be better suited for the task if
overnight lodging was necessary_
Administration and Finance
Discussion on the YTD budget_ We are more than half way through the year and on target_ City
side of budget is straight forward_ Depending on winter snow, the overtime budget may be
impacted_
Senior Soiree budgeted $6,000 and went under budget at $5,372_
Jessica took part in a training for city departments that charge fees to learn how consumers could
pay the fees online_ It appears that it would only make sense of a few of our current programs
be set up for online payment as most cost less than $20_
MaryAnn continues to work with the City Solicitor's office regarding the Thome estate_
On May 24, 2000 Marjorie Thorne passed away_ Her will named BCOA, specifically the
"Building Fund" or successor organization to receive one third of her estate_ In a letter from the
attorney representingher estate it was noted that since the Building Fund no longer exists, the
city needs to identify a "successor in the interest" to the entity named in the will, which is the
Senior Center building_
Our van is down_ The battery is dead and needs to be replaced_
All activities for the center were cancelled today, February 3 and buses did not go out_
The center was closed to senor activities, but the staff was in house_ Robo calls went out to
seniors who were signed up for various activities_ The Mayor decides when school is not in
session whether or not staff have to report to work_
Program and Events
Jessica shared Molly's Community Engagement newsletter with the board_
Upcoming community engagement events include=
February 5 th and 19 game nights
February 10 Senior Breakfast Club with BHS students
February 11 th Poetry Workshop with Director of the Writing Center at Montserrat College
Snowball Soiree on January 8 th was well attended and fun_ Kudos to Annie for her work on this
annual event_
Senior Care Valentine's Day Breakfast Fundraiser will be held on February 13 2015
7 -9.30 AM_ MaryAnn is looking for Board participation in this event_
The RSVP /AARP tax aide program will be on site every Thursday from February 5 — April 9,
2015 and Marjorie will be booking one hour appointments for the 3 volunteers assigned to the
Senior Center-
Meetings/Activities/Clients
Jessica attended a Gloucester based "High Risk Task Force" to gather information for possible
replication in Beverly_
Jessica and MaryAnn were interviewed by the Beverly Citizen regarding the Bridges Together
program which will be offered in collaboration with Pathways for Children_
MaryAnn attended a Cable Commission meeting at the Beverly Public Library to discuss future
equipment needs and wants with the Commission and the Bev Cam staff_ MaryAnn said that her
impression is that the Senior Center building is adequately equipped for filming needs and does
not have storage space or dedicated staff to manage more sophisticated cameras or technology at
this time_
Beverly Community Council will meet on February 10 at the Cabot Theatre at Noon_
Endicott College intern is facilitating a Clutterbugs group with active participation_
Personnel Updates=
Scholarship Committee
The committee met and approved several scholarship applications for trips_
Awards Committee
Will meet again in April-
By-Laws Review and Revision Committee
Members are Jessica Wistran, Claire Marie Hart, Bob Hobbs and Cynthia Montalbano_
Committee is awaiting comment on the draft revisions from Assistant City Solicitor, Kevin
Corridan_
New Business:
Discussion on the two hour Board training held at Endicott that was attended by several
members_ MaryAnn is looking into holding training for the entire board to be held at the BCOA
date to be announced_
Unfinished Business
A copy of the draft from the Bylaws committee was presented to the Board for approval_
Next Meeting will be March 3, 2015 - 2.30 pm
