2014-02-25NO Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Date: Tuesday, February 25, 2014 6:30 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Margaret Altman, Mary Behrle, Georgia Bills, Marshall Handly, Anthony Kline, Neil Olson, Kevin O'Reilly, and Myron Schirer -Suter Board members absent: Joanne Panunzio Others present: Patricia Cirone, Anna Langstaff, Bruce Doig Recorder: Anna Langstaff Kevin O'Reilly presided. Anthony Kline made the motion, seconded by Marshall Handly, to accept the minutes of the regular meeting of January 28, 2014 as read. Motion passed. Election of Officers Anthony Kline made the motion, seconded by Marshall Handly, to nominate Joanne Panunzio as Secretary. There were no other nominations. Motion passed. Anthony Kline made the motion, seconded by Marshall Handly, to nominate Kevin O'Reilly as Chair. There were no other nominations. Motion passed. Public Presentation Bruce Doig was introduced to the board. Committee Reports Personnel: No report. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Long Range Planning: No report. Report of the Library Director 1) FY2015 Budget: Patricia Cirone reviewed FY2015 budget. 2) FY2016 Budget: Patricia Cirone met with Bryant Ayles, the new finance director for the city. Mayor Cahill and Bryant Ayles have started working on the FY2016 budget. 3) Waiver: The library did receive the waiver for FY2014, but beginning next year the waiver requirements will be stricter. 4) Building: Building construction will start March 1, not March 31. There will be weekly construction meetings. Old part of the third floor will be closed beginning March 1. Librarians are shifting books on the third floor to make room for the rest of the fiction. 5) Farms Branch: Lighting in Farms Branch lobby has improved. 6) Meeting Room Policy: Patricia Cirone has spoken with Councilor Lang about the library's meeting room policy. The city solicitor also prepared a brief for Councilor Lang. 7) Patron Complaint: A patron complained about the noise level in the children's room and wanted to use the story hour room. Patricia Cirone has been in contact with the patron. 8) State EBook Trial: EBook trial has launched. 9) Snow Policy: Mayor Cahill has instituted a new snow policy closing policy, which will be slightly revised. 10) 3D Printer: The Friends approved the purchase of a 3D printer and it has been ordered. 11) Beverly High School Yearbooks: Beverly High School yearbooks have been digitized. 12) Newspaper Trial: The library is testing a trial of the historical Boston Herald. Patricia Cirone is talking with same company to see if the Beverly Citizen could be digitized. 13) Satellite Teen Library: Young Adult librarian has been asked by the YMCA whether the library could set up a teen satellite library at the McPherson Center. 14) Programs: Chronicle's Ted Reinstein, Monday Mornings lecture series, Program Power Breakfast, Bad Art Night, story hours, music programs, science and astronomy club. Communications None Unfinished Business 1) Art Displays: Ron Pruett, Head of the Guild of Beverly Artists, asked if the board would consider allowing an exemption to allow price stickers on artwork. After some discussion, library trustees decided to continue the existing policy as is. 2) Bookmobile Trust Fund: The bookmobile trust fund correspondence has been given to Bryant Ayles. New Business 1) 3D Printer: Patricia Cirone reviewed waiver and user agreement drafts for the 3D printer. After some discussion, including a discussion on the establishment of a cafe in the library, library trustees decided that they will review the 3D printer drafts and continue the cafe discussion at the next meeting. The next meeting of the board will be Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 6:30 PM at the Main Library. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:35 PM.
