1698-04-01[Selectmen's Meeting April 1, 1698]
At a meeting of the Selectmen on the 1 st day of April 1698, was a town rate made amounting in the whole
to the sum of £53:01:11, and committed to Constable Roger Haskell for the collecting and paying
according to the following warrant, viz.: to Constable Roger Haskell, you are required in his Majesty's
name to collect and gather of the several persons within named, their several proportions as they are set,
rated or assessed, to the within rate, list or bill of assessment, made for the town according to record on
our town book dated March 28, 1698, being in the whole the sum of the which you are forth with to pay
into the town treasurer, or otherwise as the Selectmen shall order, and if any shall refuse or neglect to
make payment of his or her respective sums as they are rated to the within list, then you are to make
distress of the same according to law, and for your doing so this shall be your warrant. Dated in Beverly
April 1, 1698. Signed order of the Selectmen.
