1697-05-23[Selectmen's Meeting May 23, 1697] At a meeting of the Selectmen May the 23rd, 1697, was a rate made of five shillings charged on Constable Larcom to pay to Joshua Basson, the which five shillings was in full satisfaction for all debts of town to the above said Joshua Basson, as may appear by his following receipt & acquaintance, viz: Beverly May the 23rd, 1697. Then received of the Selectmen of Beverly an order for the payment of five shillings money, the which five shillings is in full satisfaction for all debts, dues and demands, due to me from said town, from the beginning of the world unto this present time, and further, I do by these presents freely and clearly acquit and discharge said town, of and from all other debts, and dues and demands of any kind or manner whatsoever, from the beginning of the world unto this present time, in witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand, the day and year above written. By the Joshua Basson
