1697-04-08[Selectmen's Meeting April 8, 1697] At a meeting of the Selectmen on the 8th day of April 1697 were four lists of the country assessments made, that is to say, two committed to Constable William Cleaves, one containing the just sum of thirty two pounds, and fifteen shillings, and the seven pence, the other being the sum of thirty two pounds, and thirteen shillings, and seven pence, here ordered to pay to the County Treasurer, the sum of thirty two pounds and fifteen shillings of each list, the other two committed to Constable Cornelius Larcom, the one being the sum of thirty one pounds, eleven shillings and six pence, the other containing the sum of thirty pounds, ten shillings and nine pence, he is ordered to pay to the County Treasurer, twenty pounds & five shillings of each list. Mr. Thomas West, Mr. Robert Bradford, Mr. Thomas Woodbury & Mr. Isaac Woodbury, being selectmen of Beverly for the present year `97, and said town neglecting to choose assessors for the country tax, dated by act May the 7th, 1697, the said persons by said act being made assessors for said tax, for the said town of Beverly, and said persons have taken the oath required by said act this 8th day of April 1697.
