1697-03-10[Selectmen's Meeting March 10, 1697] At a meeting of the selectmen March the 10th, 1696/7, John Trask, Constable brought the following receipt, viz.: received of John Trask of Beverly, two pounds, five shillings, which made the full of his proportion of the country rate. By me John Appleton, Treasurer. April 1, 1696. At the same meeting of the selectmen Constable John Trask brought the following receipts, they being also written on the backside of several warrants, directed from the County Treasurer to the above said John Trask, which are as followeth, viz.: Boston, February 12th, 1695. Received of Mr. John Trask, Constable Beverly, twenty one pounds, five shillings & five pence, in full of the within mentioned warrant. For Mr. James Taylor, Treasurer. Jer. Allen Boston, February 21st, 1695. Received of Mr. John Trask, Constable of Beverly, seventeen pounds, seven shillings and one penny, in full of the within mentioned warrant. For Mr. James Taylor, Treasurer. Jer. Allen Boston, June 21st, 1695. Received of Mr. John Trask, Constable of Beverly, thirty two pounds, ten shillings, in full of the within mentioned warrant. I say received from Mr. James Taylor, Treasurer. Jer. Allen Boston, May 28th, 1696. Received of Mr. John Trask, Constable of Beverly, eleven pounds, ten shillings and nine pence, in full of the within mentioned warrant. Received for Mr. James Taylor, Treasurer Jer. Allen Boston, May 28th, 1696. Received of Mr. John Trask, Constable of Beverly, seventeen pounds, seven shillings & one penny, in full of the within mentioned warrant. Received for Mr. James Taylor, Treasurer. Jer. Allen The first here entered of the five said warrants dated the 2nd day of September, 1695. The second dated the first day of October 1695. The third as they stand here entered dated the 17th day of April 1695. The fourth as they stand here entered dated six day of April, 1696. The fifth as they are here entered dated the 12th day of March, 1695/6. At a meeting of the selectmen March 10, 1696/7, whereas there is £02:02:06, deducted from the record dated 17 of November, 1696, the whole sum there being £02:07:06, on which account there now remains due to Capt. William Dodge, the sum of fifteen pounds, and five shillings on account of a former reckoning the whole sum due is 01:00:00 in money. At the same meeting of the selectmen March 10, 1696/7, this agreement made between the selectmen, on behalf of the town of Beverly on the one -party, & Simon Lovett of said town on the other party, which is as followeth, viz: the said Simon Lovett doth hereby promise and engage, to serve said town in the place of sexton for one whole year from the date hereof, to take care of the meeting house, to ring the bell, and to sweep the meeting house as there shall be need from time to time, and in all respects to do duty of a sexton, in consideration whereof the said Simon is to be paid, the just and full sum of five pounds money, out of the town treasury or some other way, by the town to the said Simon Lovett's satisfaction, in witness whereof we have hereunto interchangeably set our hands, the day and year above written.
