1696-02-10[Selectmen's Meeting February 10, 1696] Due unto Samuel Balch the sum of ten pounds in money from the town, on account of court charges paid by the said Samuel Balch, as he was Selectmen for the town of Beverly, with Lieut. Andrew Elliott, Deacon Peter Woodberry, Zachariah Herrick and John Balch for the year 1694, said Selectmen of Beverly being sued by John Newman, John Batchelder, Samuel Kimball and William Fairfield, Selectmen of Wenham, for not perambulating with them as they said, on the line and bounds between their town and ours in April 1694, said ten pounds to be paid to the said Samuel Balch upon demand, together with six and the hundred interest & till said ten pounds in money be paid to the said Samuel Balch on his order; entered at a meeting of the Selectmen on the 10 of February 1695/6; said ten pounds paid by the said Samuel Balch, according to the judgment of Superior Court held at Ipswich, May 21, 1695, and from that time due to the said Samuel Balch. There is due to John Balch, three pounds and two shillings in money, paid by him to said Selectmen of Wenham at the time and on the account above said. At the same meeting of the Selectmen February the 10th, 1695/6, the above said John Balch is fully paid the above said three pounds and two shillings. At a meeting of the Selectmen on the I 01 of February 1695/6, Hazediah Smith who was Constable for the year '93, brought the following receipt, viz.: received of the ministry rate for the year begun the first November, one thousand six hundred ninety three; per order of Hazediah Smith the sum of thirty two pounds, this 8th of February, sixteen hundred ninety five /six. By me John Hale At a meeting of the Selectmen on the 10 of February, 1695/6, Samuel Stone, Constable for the year 1694, paid three pounds and ten shillings, the which was due to the town by record dated the 23rd, 12th month 1694/5, that is to say three pounds in money, and ten shillings by discount of John Drinker, his rate, and now the said Stone is fully discharged of said three pounds and ten shillings. February the 10th, 1695/6. Then reckoned with Samuel Stone who was Constable for the year 1694, with respect to a town rate dated, February the 11th, 1694/5 and also for Mr. Hale's rate committed to him and he hath fully paid the said rates. At the same town meeting of the Selectmen Samuel Stone brought the following receipt viz: the 10 of December 1695. Received of Samuel Stone, Constable on his order, ten pounds, thirteen shillings, four pence, for my pains for the third of a year ended last March. Received by me John Hale
