1696-03-03[Town Meeting March 3, 16961 March 3, 1695/6 At a legal meeting of the inhabitants of the town of Beverly, were chosen for Selectmen for the year ensuing as followeth, viz.: Deacon John Hill, Mr. Thomas West, Mr. Robert Bradford, Mr. Edward Dodge & Samuel Balch. At the same town meeting Lieut. William Dodge was chosen Town Treasurer for the year ensuing. At the same town meeting, Joseph Lovett senr. was chosen constable for Mackerel Cove ward, and Sgt. John Balch for Bass River ward, for the year ensuing. At the same town meeting, Samuel Balch was chosen Town Clerk for the year ensuing. At the same town meeting Jonathan Biles, Benjamin Ellingwood, Jonathan Raymond & William Dodge the 3rd was chosen surveyors of our town and country highways, within our town for the year ensuing. At the same town meeting was chosen for tithing men for the year ensuing as followeth, viz.: Richard Ober, John Sallows, Samuel Stone senr., Hazediah Smith, William Raymond junr. & Peter Woodberry junr. At the same town meeting, Matthew Butman & Robert Roundy were chosen fence viewers for the year ensuing. At the same meeting of the inhabitants John Lovett senr. was chosen Clerk of the Market, for the year ensuing. At the same town meeting William Elliott was chosen Sealer of Leather for the year ensuing. At the same town meeting, Cornelius Baker and Elias Pickworth were chosen field drivers for the year ensuing.
