1695-11-05[Selectmen's Meeting November 5, 1695] At a meeting of the Selectmen, November the 5th, 1695, Joseph Herrick who was Constable for the year 1694, brought the following receipt, viz: received of Joseph Herrick junr., Constable for my pains from November 10 unto March 1st, 1694/5, the third part of a year, three pounds, thirteen shillings and four pence, besides seven pounds I gave receipt for before. Received the 15 July 1695. By me John Hale The ten pounds, thirteen shillings and four pence mentioned in the next above receipt is the full of what the said Joseph Herrick was to gather for and to pay to the said Mr. Hale, for the year that the said Joseph Herrick was Constable. This indentment and agreement made this 12th of November 1695, between William Bath of the town of Beverly, in the County of Essex, in New England on the one part, and John Lovett, senr., Samuel Balch, John Balch & Ebenezer Woodbury, Selectmen of said town, in the town's behalf on the other part, which is as followeth, viz: that I William Bath abovesaid do bargain & promise to and with said Selectmen, to keep Joshua Turland of said town in meat, drink, clothes, washing and lodging fit for such a person, unto the first day of March next ensuing, for that which together with what is due of the said William Bath, for the keeping of the said Turland from the first of March last past, said Selectmen do in the town's behalf, promise and engage to & with the said William Bath, for he shall be paid the just and full sum of seven pounds in silver, good and lawful money, of New England; in witness whereof we have hereunto interchangeably set our hands.
