1695-01-02[Selectmen's Meeting January 2, 1695] At a meeting of the Selectmen on the 2nd of January 1694/5, Constable Joseph Herrick paid £07:05:07, out of the town rate mentioned in the next above record. January the 2nd, 1694/5. At a meeting of the Selectmen of Beverly, agreed that William Bath, of said town, shall be paid ten pounds in current pay, for his keeping of Joshua Turland, from the first of March '93/4, unto the first of March' 94/5, if said Bath shall keep said Turland to the first of March, '94/5, as above said. At the same meeting of the Selectmen of Beverly on the 2nd of January, 1694/5, was a vote or bill of assessment made amounting in the whole to £39:06:08 to be paid in money and warrant writ upon the same, bearing date the 8th day of January above said, and committed to Constable Samuel Stone for the collecting & gathering; £32 of said rate to be paid to Mr. John Hale minister of the gospel amongst us, for his salary for the year begun the first day of November, 1694 the other seven pounds six shillings and eight pence he is to pay into the Selectmen for the use of the town. There being since an alteration with respect to the rate next above mentioned, and the said Samuel Stone had a list committed to him, the third part of Mr. Hale's maintenance for one year, and so was discharged of either gathering or paying the rate above said, that is today the rate of £39:06:084 Mr. Hale.
