1693-03-05[Town Meeting March 5, 16931 A general town meeting of the freeholders & the inhabitants of the town of Beverly, qualified according to law, on the 5 I of March 1693 were chosen for selectmen as followeth, for the year ensuing, viz: Lieut. Andrew Elliott, Deacon Peter Woodbury, Zachariah Herrick, John Balch & Samuel Balch. At the same town meeting the 5 of March, 1693, Joseph Herrick & Samuel Stone senr., were chosen constables for said town for the year ensuing, that is to say Joseph Herrick for Bass River Ward, and Samuel Stone for Mackerel Cove Ward so- called. At the same town meeting Samuel Balch was chosen clerk, for said town of Beverly for the year ensuing At the same town meeting Lieut. John Dodge was chosen Commissioner for assessments, to join with the selectmen for the year ensuing. At the same town meeting Robert Cue & Jacob Griggs, & Matthew Butman, & Cornelius Larcom, were chosen surveyors of the town & country highways, within our town for the year ensuing. At the same general town meeting were chosen for tithing men for the year ensuing as followeth viz.: Joseph Dodge, William Bradford, Cornelius Bacon, Caleb Wallis & Nathaniel Stone senr. At the same town meeting Corpl. Samuel Corning & Joshua [illegible], were chosen for fence viewers for the year ensuing. At the same general town meeting John Lovett senr. Was chosen clerk of the market for the year ensuing. At the same town meeting William Elliott was chosen sealer of leather, for the year ensuing. At the same town meeting Joseph Morgan was chosen packer, for the year ensuing. At the same town meeting March 5, 1693, Lieut. John Dodge, Edward Dodge & Ebenezer Woodbury, were chosen a committee to take notice of all particular persons bounds, bounding on our town's common land & to renew the same where they shall find the said bounds to be right, without encroachment on our town common, & when the said committee doth find that any person or persons, hath encroached on our town common land by their present bounds in such case the said committee is to seize all lands encroached as above said for the use of the town above said & to settle bounds with such persons as shall be right and just; that particular persons may have their right & our common not infringed; as also to view the parts of our town common, requested for by several persons at the time above said, & make report thereof to the next town meeting.
