1692-01-02[Town Meeting January 2, 1692] January 2, 1692. At a general town meeting of the inhabitants of Beverly legally warned, John Lovett Senior & Robert Cue were chosen to serve on the grand jury, to attend the service of the court of assize to sit at Salem this week, also at the same time Samuel Morgan senr. and Edmund Gale, were chosen to serve on the jury of trials for the court above said. At the same town meeting, the town taking into consideration the unreasonableness of Salem's receiving rent of on of our town, for the use of the ferry between their town and ours, the which privilege we judge to be ours, have therefore made choice of Capt. William Raymond, Lieut. Andrew Elliott & Capt. Thomas West, to join with the selectmen as a committee, to treat with Mr. Roger Haskins, and to let the said ferry to him and some other for the use of this town. 2nd January, 1692. then reckoned with Constable Jonathan Biles for the country rate committed in 5th August 1691. 2nd January 1692. At a meeting of the selectmen, there reckoned with Constable Jonathan Biles, for the overplus of the country rate, made and committed to him 5th of August 1691, and said Biles remains debtor to the town, eight pounds fourteen shillings and ten pence in money £08:14:10.
