1691-06-23[Town Meeting June 23, 1691] The 23 of June, 169 1. At a general town meeting legally warned, there were chosen & appointed by the inhabitants then convened, selectmen for our town of Beverly as followith viz: Deacon John Hill, Lieut. Exercise Conant, Henry Herrick senr., Nehemiah Grover & Mark Haskell senr. for one whole year next ensuing the date hereof. At a general town meeting legally warned, holden on the 23rd day of June, 1691, there was chosen by the inhabitants then convened, Mr. Roger Haskins to be a constable for our town of Beverly, in Bass River Ward so- called, for one whole year from the date hereof. At the same town meeting there was chosen by said inhabitants, Nicholas Woodburie [i.e. Woodbury] to be a constable for our said town, in Mackerell [i. e. Mackerel] Cove Ward so- called, for one whole year from the date hereof, Capt. John Dodge & Mr. Thomas Gage were chosen & appointed for to serve upon & in the jury, for trials at our County Court on the last Tuesday instant at Salem. At the same town meeting Andrew Elliott did petition the inhabitants then convened that they would be pleased to give or pay him the said Elliott, something toward the damage he sustained for writing of a record, that is in our town book, that was voted at a certain town meeting, or in Sir Edmund Andros, his time of government, and said inhabitants did then agree, vote & grant to said petitioner three pounds in money which said Elliott accepted of in full, and the same day after said meeting at the house of John Stone, said Elliott did consider the want of money in our town, & and did freely give twenty shillings of said three pounds toward the remaining of our meeting house & purchasing of glass for said use.
