1693-04-06[Selectmen's Meeting April 6, 1693']
At a meeting of the Selectmen of Beverly, on the 6th of the 2nd month, 1693, was a country rate made
amounting in the whole to seventy one pounds and nine shillings, and committed to Constable Hazediah
Smith in the collecting, fifty -nine pounds, twelve shillings & six pence whereof he is to pay into the
country treasurer, on or before the first of May next ensuing and the overplus being eleven pounds &
sixteen shillings and six pence he is to return to the Selectmen for the use of the town, within the year
aforesaid.
At the same meeting of the Selectmen was a country made, amounting in the whole to sixty -five pounds
and one shilling, and committed to Constable George Hull for the collecting: fifty -nine pounds, twelve
and six pence, whereof he is to pay in to the country treasurer, on or before 1 May next ensuing, on the
overplus being five pounds, eight shillings and six pence, he is to pay in to the selectmen for the use of
the town, within the year above said.
At the same meeting of the Selectmen on the 6th of 2nd month 1693, was granted liberty to build a seat in
our meeting house, on the south side of the meeting house over the south gallery, to such persons as are
hereunder written, viz: Nathaniel Hayward, Nehemiah Stone, Joshua Dodge, Henry Herrick junr.,
Nathaniel Raymond, George Raymond, Jonathan Herrick, John Thorndike, Roger Conant, Robert
Haskins, Jonathan Stone, Luke Morgan.
At the same meeting of the Selectmen was also granted to the persons under named, liberty to build a seat
in our meeting house on the west end of the pulpit and so adjoining to the north part of the far seats in the
west gallery, viz.: Mark Haskell, Edward Raymond, Benjamin Woodbury, John & Samuel West, John
Ober & Robert Woodbury.
