1692-12-19[Selectmen's Meeting December 19, 1692]
At a meeting of the Selectmen on 19 December, 1692, Constable John Dodge brought this receipt as
followeth.
Charlestown the 25th November, 1692 then received of Mr. John Dodge Constable of Beverly, the sum of
one hundred seventy eight pounds, fifteen shillings, in part of said town's proportion of the twenty four
thousand pound rate & I say received.

At the same meeting of the Selectmen, was a rate made for Mr. Hale's maintenance or salary, which was
to be paid of said rate to Mr. Hale, sixty -four pounds in money quarterly that is to say sixteen pounds per
quarter, the which rate was made for the year begun the first of November, 1692, the which rate was
committed to Constable John Conant & Constable John Stone, into lists for the collecting and gathering,
each to pay to Mr. Hale in equal parts, which is thirty -two pounds apiece, the overplus of Constable
Conant's list being seventeen pounds & seventeen shillings, which he is to pay into the Selectmen for the
use of the town, within the year above said, the overplus of Constable Stone's list being one pound &
eighteen shillings which he is also to pay into the Selectmen for the use of the town, within the year above
said.
