1691-02-20[Selectmen's Meeting February 2, 169 1] This in indentment, bargain or agreement made the second day of February, in the year of our Lord, 1691 between William Bath of our town of Beverly, in the County of Essex, in New England, of the one party and the Selectmen of the said town, to wit, Deacon John Hill, Lieut. Exercise Conant, Mr. Henry Herrick, Mr. Nehemiah Grover & Mr. Mark Haskell in the behalf of the said town of the other party, witnesseth that said Bath doth hereby covenant, promise & engage to & with said Selectmen, to keep and maintain Joshua Turland, now in said Bath's custody, in meat, drink, clothing, washing & lodging & all things necessary for such a person for one whole year, said year beginning on the 27th day of January last past: and said Selectmen do hereby covenant & promise, in the behalf of the said town, to pay unto said Bath in said year ten pound, for & in consideration of said Bath's keeping of said Turland in manner as aforesaid and for the due performance of what is above written, according to the true intent & meaning hereof we above -named have here unto interchangeably set to our hands, the day & year first above written.
