22: of January, 1690/91. At a meeting of the selectmen, there was a rate made amounting to £281:16:01
containing twenty single country rates, and to defray something of our town charges, said rates being
divided into two lists or bills of assessments as follows; one of the above lists was delivered unto
Constable Freeborn Balch for his gathering & collecting according to warrant upon his said list, and to
pay in unto the Country Treasurer or his assigns the just sum of £126:13:04, and the overplus which is
£13:05:01, he is to pay in unto the Selectmen for the use of the town. The other of said list or bill of
assessments, was delivered unto Constable Robert Briscoe, for said Briscoe's gathering & collecting, and
to pay in unto the Country Treasurer, or his assigns, the just some of £126:13:04, and the overplus which
is £15:04:04, said Briscoe is to pay in unto the selectmen for the use of the town, according to warrant
upon said list or bill of assessments.
