1690-08-06[Selectmen August 6, 1690] The 6 "' of August, 1690. At a meeting of the Selectmen at the house of Mr. Roger Haskins, there was a rate made & delivered unto Constable Freeborn Balch, to gather & collect, & being so gathered to pay unto the country treasurer £100; and to pay the overplus unto the Selectmen, or unto said Selectmen's order, which is £11:04:04, which was said Balch's proportion to the ten single rates in pay. At the same meeting of the Selectmen, there was likewise a rate made and committed unto said constable Balch, for his gathering & collecting amounting to £27:17:00. £25 of said rate to be paid in unto the Country Treasurer in money, at or before the 20th day of September next ensuing the date hereof, and the overplus which is £2:17 00 to be paid in money unto the Selectmen for their order for use of the town, which was said Balch's proportion to the two rates & half to be paid in money. At the same meeting of the Selectmen there was a country rate made amounting to £100:18:00 and committed into the hands of Constable Robert Briscoe, for his collecting & gathering in pay, and said Briscoe was to pay unto the Country Treasurer, or unto said treasurer's order £100 and to pay the overplus unto the Selectmen which is eighteen shillings or unto said Selectmen's order, which is said Briscoe's proportion to the ten single country rates. At the same meeting of the Selectmen there was a rate made for the country amounting to £25:17:04 in money, and committed unto the hands of said Constable Briscoe, for the collecting & gathering and to pay in unto the Country Treasurer £25 of said money, and to pay in unto the Selectmen the overplus in money or unto said Selectmen's order for the use of the town, which is 17 shillings 04 cents, as said Briscoe's proportion of the two rates & half to be paid in money.
