Design Review Board January 3, 2013 Colleen Bruce, Karen Bebergal, Jane Brusca, Bill Finch, Rachel Matthews, Ellen Flannery None None Leah Zambernardi 1. 238 Rantoul Street — Original Body Design — Kari Marks, 238 Rantoul Street, Beverly, MA Ms. Kari Marks speaks on her own behalf and states she would like to install a projecting sign measuring 18- inches in height, 36- inches in length and 1 /z in depth at 238 Rantoul Street. The sign would read "Original Body Design" with a white background and blue, grey and black lettering. Mr. Finch asks about illumination. Ms. Marks states she has a floodlight that faces the sidewalk. She will not be internally illuminating the sign. She will make sure the floodlight does not shine down on people's eyes. Ms. Mathews: Motion to approve the proposed sign package as presented, seconded by Mr. Finch. All in favor. 2. 1 West Street — Half Baked — Kelly Mackin, 38 Partridge Lane, Lynnfield, MA Ms. Mackin speaks on her own behalf and states she would like to install primary and secondary wall signs. The primary sign would measure 30" in height and 16' in length and would read "Half Baked" with red, pink, white, grey and black lettering and symbols. The primary sign would face West Street. The secondary sign would face Hale Street and would measure 12" in height. Mr. Finch states the signage is oversized, too high and not in keeping with the overall character of signage in Beverly Farms. Ms. Mackin states she presented the maximum size allowable under zoning and that she is fine with the sign being reduced in size. She states that the big black metal sign band is permanent. She would like to put in whiter or gray panels to cover up the rusted aluminum and then put the sign on top of that. She stated that she is not particular about the size of the actual letters and whatever the DRB approves is fine with her. Mr. Finch states that a 30" letter is very high. DRB January 3, 2013 Page 2 of 2 Mr. Finch asks about color choice and Ms. Mackin states the original design had many different colors, and the sign designer came up with a different idea that wasn't as loud. She stated that the sign colors reflect those inside of the building, which are pink, white and grey. Ms. Brusca asks about the sign on the side, which faces Hale Street. Ms. Mackin states she was not sure what she wanted and that she would like something more understated. Ms. Mackin states she will not use phone numbers on the sign. She discusses window signage and a sandwich board sign with the Board Members. Mr. Finch informs her that she must seek approval of a sandwich board sign with the City Council. Ms. Matthews: Motion to approve the signs in general. This approval is conditioned upon submission of revised plans showing a smaller letter size and the use of a light grey background instead of a black background on the primary facade. Also, Ms. Mackin shall submit a plan showing the proposed sign on the secondary facade. Separate approval must be sought for a Sandwich Board Sign. Mr. Finch seconded the motion. All in favor. Revised plans will be emailed to Members for their review and sign off 3. Approval of Minutes — December 6, 2012 Ms. Brusca: Motion to approve the minutes as presented, seconded by Ms. Bebergal.
